POSITION SCOPE

The Safety Administrative Assistant will be involved with the daily operations of the Safety Department. The individual will be involved with MSHA and OSHA reporting, reporting and managing insurance claims, and helping with the day-to-day maintenance of the safety department. The Safety Assistant will work within a team-based environment and will be expected to contribute to the overall success of the safety program. They must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals and possess a positive attitude towards safety.

PRIMARY DUTIES



  • Assist Safety Director to ensure overall safety of all employees
  • MSHA Reporting - All correspondence with MSHA

    • Plant Openings, Quarterly reports, Legal ID's, Emergency Services notification, processing citations for payment


  • DOT Compliance

    • Setting up Driver Qualification files and maintaining files for compliance
    • Monitoring DOT Physicals and License renewals
    • Requesting information from previous employers of new hires
    • Monitoring Motor Vehicle Records for all employees


  • Assist in compiling and maintaining database for injury statistics
  • Assist in implementation of safety programs and policies in accordance with governmental agencies and regulations
  • Assist in investigating and documenting all property damage and personal injury accidents
  • Take part in employee safety training
  • Assist Safety Director in organizing training seminars with emphasis on hazards, personnel and equipment safety to meet OSHA and MSHA requirements
  • Function as a resource to management and employees to comply with program and regulatory requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a safety-related field preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential hazards
  • Background and knowledge of safety policies and procedures
  • Self-starter with problem solving capabilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at any given time
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
