Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Core Program Coordinator/Assistant to the Core Director, the Writing Mentorsupports student writing and writing instruction and will work closely with the Core A section's professor.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This information is intended to be a descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position.Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Hold office hours for students.
  • Attend Core class sessions as instructed.
  • Meeting with Core professor for writing mentorship direction.
  • Tutor students regarding writing.
  • Manage peer reviews in small groups.
  • As directed by Core professor, offer writing workshops to the class.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Active support for the College's Principles of Community in the performance of job duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of argument and standard written English.
  • Completion of Core I and II.
  • Previous tutor experience.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.

Experience with Word, Excel, Adobe Suites, WordPress, Canva, and social media platform posting is preferred.

None.

HOURS&CLASSIFICATIONANDSTATUS:

This position is part-time (no more than 2 hours per week), non-exempt and non-benefits eligible.

Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.

Hourly rate: $16.75. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

None.
