Job Summary:

Reviews and ensures accurate & timely submission of university-wide sponsored research grant proposals for standard and routine activities such as NIH R01 proposals and NSF basic research grants. Provides administrative oversight for resulting awards; reviews and processes non-financial post-award actions for compliance to sponsor and institutional policies and guidelines. Manages a smaller constituency with an appropriate level of complexity.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • List the primary job duties and responsibilities in order of importance. Typically, it includes 7-9 bullet points.
  • Reviews and evaluates incoming award terms and flags unusual circumstances. May recommend standard award agreements for university endorsement. Reviews and processes non-financial post award actions for compliance to sponsor and institutional policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with university, federal and agency regulations, policies, forms and guidelines for the conduct of research. Monitors and communications changes are implemented by sponsors. Determines that all University & sponsor requirements are met prior to the University's endorsement & submission of proposals and acceptance of awards.
  • Provides assistance & guidance to university faculty & staff, usually one-on-one or in small group settings. Assumes direct contact with faculty as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS)

  • Identify the minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job. Qualifications include education, experience, specialized knowledge, and professional certification.
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR an appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years' experience in the administration of sponsored research at an educational institution, in the federal government or at some other entity engaged in sponsored research
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Federal regulations related to research administration, including Uniform Guidance, RTC terms and conditions
  • Other major federal funding agency guidelines including FAR
  • Major sponsor electronic systems such as Grants.gov, Commons, Research.gov & FastLane
  • Computer proficiency: software use may include Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access, web browsers, email, and systems including PeopleSoft, eRA Commons, Research.gov and various sponsor systems
  • Grant Administration: manages grant application process; assists with preparation and submits pre- and post-award award requests tothe sponsor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS)

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree
  • Organization: plans, organizations and schedules in an efficient, productive manner; anticipates contingencies and pays attention to detail; targets projects or initiatives that require special attention and focuses on key tasks when faced with limited time and resources.
  • Customer Focus: regularly monitors customer satisfaction; provides suggestions to improve quality and value to the customer

Target hiring range for this position will be between $64,000 to $75,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
