Job Description Summary This work involves the primary responsibility of assisting with shuttle operations (i.e., shuttle bus/van cleaning and sanitizing, transporting vehicles for service, etc.,) and the secondary responsibility of driving a shuttle bus or van to transport passengers, as needed.
Job Description Essential Functions: Bus Driver:
- Operates University vehicles to provide safe transportation of faculty, staff, and students on and off campus locations, as assigned.
- Performs vehicle pre-and post-trip inspections; reports any defects; maintains a clean and neat vehicle.
- Reports items left on shuttles to lost and found along with any relevant information.
- Completes rider logs for all persons transported and uses a two-way radio to communicate.
- Trains new or temporary shuttle drivers on routes.
- Builds rapport with students and employees, allowing them to have a sense of safety and security.
Operations:
- Delivers and picks up vehicles for service and repair.
- Obtains rented vehicles from various locations as needed.
- Washes and cleans the interior and exterior of vans and buses.
- Disinfects vehicles using electrostatic sprayers with a Bioesque solution that sanitizes, disinfects, and deodorizes the interiors of vans and buses.
- Re-fuels buses and vans off-site during overnight hours or on weekends during fleet services fuel station downtime.
- Early morning arrivals for de-icing of transportation fleet during the winter months.
- Overnight availability as needed for unexpected emergencies.
- Snow removal from transportation fleet as needed after winter storms.
- Assists in vehicle decommissioning, graphic removal, auction preparation, etc.
- Light vehicle maintenance, including wiper blade removal/installation.
- Wheelchair lift inspections for the shuttle buses before special events.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. with two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year driving 25-passenger or larger shuttles/buses.
- CDL-B with a P endorsement.
- Ability to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
- Ability to write detailed and accurate reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written in English.
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions.
- Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
- Ability to operate equipment safely, such as vehicle wheelchair lifts and two-way radios.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
- Ability to complete First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogen training.
- Basic knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Identification Plaques.
- Basic ability to check the mechanical soundness of large passenger vehicles.
- Ability to work during holidays, weekends, day and night shifts, and overtime.
Physical Requirements:

- Visual acuity is required to observe unauthorized or unlawful, unsafe/hazardous situations, behaviors, or individuals, to describe physical descriptions of people, articles, or activities, to complete written reports, and to view computer terminals.

- Constantly operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Occasionally operating a wheelchair lift as needed.
