Job Overview

The Vertical Technician troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains vertical transportation systems.

Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. What You Will Do



  • Repair, operate, and maintain vertical transportation equipment and systems
  • Test, evaluate, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Ensure systems operate in compliance with regulations and codes
  • Perform all duties safely and according to established work standards
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies for vertical equipment when on-call
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to address emergencies in facilities as needed
  • Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned


Skills You Will Need

Technical Expertise: Proficient in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining vertical transportation systems with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of local codes and regulations, ensuring systems operate in compliance with all applicable standards.

Problem Solving: Ability to make sound, independent decisions and troubleshoot complex issues effectively.

Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety standards and the ability to perform duties safely while staying alert to surrounding conditions.

Communication Skills: Strong ability to read, write, and interpret safety rules, schematics, and manuals. Effective communication with peers, managers, and the general public.

Math Proficiency: Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and ability to use a calculator.

Certification: State certification required for vertical equipment maintenance and repair.

Team Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure high-quality work in a collaborative environment.

Technical Software Skills: Familiarity with PC, Windows applications, and Outlook.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a High School diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply.

    • 2+ years of vertical equipment maintenance and repair experience required
    • State certification required

  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands.

    • Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders
    • May involve reaching above eye level
    • Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs. Able to work on-call as needed
  • Able to travel between store locations, as needed
