OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior CAD Technician to join our Built Environment Solutions (BES) division at Rimkus. The Senior CAD Technician is responsible for preparing drawings and details for structural, architectural, and civil disciplines related to repairs and modifications of existing properties. This role is ideal for someone with deep AutoCAD and Revit experience who thrives in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) field, particularly in the assessment and restoration of existing buildings. You will play a key role in translating field observations and engineering direction into accurate construction documents, often working independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Projects may involve wood, concrete, masonry, and steel systems, and will range from minor repairs to full-scale remediation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare complete and accurate structural and architectural drawings, plans, elevations, and details using AutoCAD and Revit (Preferred, not req'd).
  • Be familiar with specifications, sketches, drawing notes, and other design data to produce new drawings and make corrections or revisions to existing drawings.
  • Prepare, organize, and manage drawings and specifications using CAD and word processing applications (e.g., MS Word).
  • Develop and assemble drawing sets with plan views, elevation views, and construction details to support remediation and repair design efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and designers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Understand and assist in developing company CAD standards, including layer naming conventions, line and character styles, drawing naming, and sheet layout protocols.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of internal CAD documentation workflows and quality control.
  • Participate in occasional field visits (minimal) to gather measurements, sketches, and on-site data; must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and enter damaged or confined spaces as needed.
  • Maintain project deadlines and ensure drawing production is completed efficiently with minimal oversight.
  • Communicate clearly with project teams and clients as needed regarding drawing scope and status.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs and work toward technical certifications as defined by Practice Leaders or Technical Directors.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, and CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in AutoCAD drafting within structural, architectural, or civil disciplines.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction detailing for wood, concrete, masonry, and steel systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Architectural Engineering preferred; technical school graduates with relevant experience also considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience preparing repair drawings for forensic, insurance, or construction defect cases.
  • Understanding of building envelope detailing and structural remediation.
  • Knowledge of drafting standards and organization within multidisciplinary AEC teams.

KEY SKILLS:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Clear verbal and written communication.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and self-direction.
  • Professionalism when interacting with engineers, clients, and coworkers.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to project sites.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, navigate construction or damaged structures, and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Must be focused, alert, and detail-oriented during both fieldwork and documentation.

SCHEDULE:

  • Full-time, salaried, exempt position with typical hours from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, employer-matching 401(k), paid time off, and professional development support.

The Salary Range for this position is $83,300 - $124,900 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.
