Job Summary

Oversees the administration and operations of health profession education programs which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. Develops, prioritizes and implements strategies that improve program quality, processes, and compliance.

The Health Professions Education Supervisor 2 has the primary oversight the training programs, faculty, and students within UCSF School of Nursing. This individual is responsible for specialty coordination of our programs including assisting in program planning, development, administration, and implementation. The supervisor will coordinate the activities of the Academic Programs staff including necessary student interactions, faculty support, as well as the development and implementation of programmatic changes. This position requires sophisticated analysis, a keen eye for details, and solid communication and administrative skills to orchestrate complex activities which are inter-professional in scope.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $98,100 - $164,200 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The School of Nursing is ranked first in NIH funding among Schools of Nursing in the United States. There are four academic departments in the school; Community Health Care Nursing, Family Health Care Nursing, Physiological Nursing and Social and Behavioral Sciences. There is also one Organized Research Unit, the Institute for Health and Aging. The Administrative Director will have responsibility over these four departments and ORU.

Each department in the School of Nursing engage in the three missions of the school, Education, Research and Service (including clinical service). Through subordinate supervisor's incumbent will manage the staff that supports these three missions.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory / management/ lead experience
  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical health profession / education concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, learners, faculty, and other education program coordinators / managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on educational techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve the health profession education services.
  • Knowledge of the health professions education industry, administrative analysis and operations research. Knowledge of assigned program requirements and curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in related area preferred
  • Knowledge of department, organization, HR and university policies and processes. Current knowledge of relevant industry federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.
  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.
