Compensation

Salary Range: $28.09 - $42.33 / hour

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Pay for PRN positions is calculated differently than Full-Time, Regular Part-Time, and Part-Time positions. PRN Rates depend on the position and other factors, including years of experience, or shift commitment according to the department policy. PRN differential is added in certain positions.



Responsibilities

Position Overview:
The Purchasing Buyer serves as a purchasing agent for Community Memorial Healthcare, with the authority to commit system funds through contracts. They procure a wide range of supplies and equipment for multiple acute and non-acute care facilities, adhering to accepted procurement procedures to secure the best price and quality of goods. The Purchasing Buyer's responsibilities include processing automated purchase requests from departments, placing orders for supplies, and addressing related tasks. These tasks include resolving pricing and shipping discrepancies, expediting orders, identifying substitutions and alternative sourcing for backordered products, and providing customer service.



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) month of related experience and/or training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with a strong focus on Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Meditech, GHX or related systems at an operational level
  • Proven customer service techniques and practices including the ability to communicate in a professional and articulate manner with internal and external partners at all levels both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and courteous while handling problems
  • Ability to follow established procedures and apply problem-solving skills

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Checks purchase requisitions for proper authorization and completeness prior to the acquisition of any requested supplies and equipment.
  2. Initiates and maintains purchase orders using the Materials Management software system.
  3. Works closely with requesting departments, providing information and assistance with purchasing-related matters.
  4. Continually seeks to understand and support customer needs, concerns, and priorities.
  5. Meets or exceeds customer expectations and requirements.
  6. Identifies available sources of supply, including alternate products in the event of back orders.
  7. Performs buying functions with accuracy and competence.
  8. Checks order status or confirmation before the close of business each day and ensures timely delivery and performance.
  9. Contacts departments through the approved process in the event of a critical product being on back order.
  10. Returns all calls within one business day.
  11. Follows department guidelines and notifies Materials leadership of any variances to the guidelines that may be critical in handling, expediting, and processing purchase orders.
  12. Arranges for the procurement of supplies on a pooled basis rather than department by department.
  13. Obtains emergency and rush-ordered supplies in coordination with the end-user departments as required.
  14. Expedites and follows up on orders placed on a regular, scheduled basis.
  15. Communicates with departments about price terms, back orders, problems, and shipping arrangements made on their behalf.
  16. Manages vendor returns and credits.
  17. Exercises tact, discretion, and diplomacy in establishing and maintaining harmonious relations with end-user departments.
  18. Advises departments of any changes or restrictions on materials that would prohibit acquisition.
  19. Keeps informed of current departmental practices or changes by regularly attending staff meetings.
  20. Participates in continuing education related to the profession.
  21. Ensures unscheduled absences do not exceed department guidelines.
  22. Observes department dress and grooming standards and consistently wears a name badge.
  23. Provides proper notification of absence or tardiness within established guidelines.
  24. Maximizes the use of all facility resources, including supplies, personal time, and the time of others.
  25. Performs duties independently with little or no need for direct supervision.
  26. Seeks guidance from department managers when appropriate.
  27. Recognizes and performs duties that need to be performed, even if not directly assigned, and regularly assists others.
  28. Seeks methods to improve current practices by identifying problems and proposing viable solutions to the manager.
  29. Performs other duties as assigned.
