Job Description We are seeking an Underwriting Services Representative to assist our underwriting team in assembling policies, handling scanning, and supporting various underwriting functions. This role requires proficiency in navigating traditional software as all tasks are paper-based. The representative will work independently, supporting a group of 13 underwriters.
Responsibilities * Calculate rates and premium amounts for customers based on provided products. * Prepare policies and billings for customers. * Analyze data from Underwriters' instructions to issue new or expiring policies, using computer programs and rating manuals. * Complete endorsements and apply pricing modification factors to premiums as instructed by the underwriter. * Review worksheets, draft scratch copies of policy forms, and indicate information on expiring policies for processing new policies. * Complete sections of premium coding accounting records for each processed transaction. * Verify corrections of colleagues' work to ensure a quality product for customers. * Establish solid working relationships with Underwriters, Marketing, Claims, and other corporate functions. * Interact with brokers and business partners regarding endorsements and policy issuance. * Process simple automatic renewals based on set renewal criteria. * Collaborate with Underwriters to clarify issues affecting premium rate calculations and with the Lead Underwriting Assistant to resolve technical issues. * Complete experience rating for underwriters. * Assist underwriters in collecting rating information. * Support the underwriting function by providing accurate premium calculation information to underwriting staff and policies to customers. * Perform other duties as assigned or authorized by the Vice President - Underwriting or Underwriting Services Supervisor. Essential Skills * Minimum of 2 years of administrative or data entry experience. * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a requirement to score 70% or higher on an assessment. * Attention to detail. * Mathematical ability. * Critical and analytical thinking capabilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Applications (Excel & Word). * Comfortable with physical handling and filing of paper-based policies. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is 100% onsite, with working hours from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM and a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM, Monday through Friday. The office environment includes a corporate location with high and low cubicles throughout the building, a very quiet setting, and an open-door policy with direct and senior management. The facility houses an insurance policy library, several conference rooms, and a classroom. The team consists of approximately 10 underwriting personnel, fostering an independent work culture. Dress code is business casual. Utilize two computer screens and two internal computer systems. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
