Overview

Days, Full-time

Location: Remote/work from home with strong preference for candidates residing within the UPH geographies of Iowa, Illinois, & Wisconsin.

Financial Reporting Analyst position designs and analyzes complex financial information to provide accurate and timely financial reports which display the financial results and trends of the organization. Reports include those for senior management and governance, including the Board, as well as publicly released quarterly disclosures and the annual audit. Position is responsible for all the controls and processes surrounding the financial reporting function, including creating and maintaining templates to facilitate the efficient and accurate use of large data sets. The position is responsible for all consolidation activities related to the monthly financial process, which includes analyzing large amounts of intercompany transactions for accuracy, integrating data from non-standard financial systems, and documenting and resolving variances. A deep understanding of performance metrics is required to identify trends and highlight changes impacting our financial results. Duties also include assisting in financial planning and budgeting cycles related to reporting and consolidation as well as creation and maintenance of attributes and data elements to assist in current and new reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Analyze monthly financial statements and prepares written communication of variances, including follow-up with responsible parties as appropriate.
  • Prepare monthly reports to submit to management and governance committees detailing financial results and trends.
  • Prepare and maintains templates for more advanced reports and supervises all enhancement and development requests.
  • Achieve and maintain a robust understanding of the GL structure for entities not part of the standard ERP system to maintain mapping tables and crosswalks for data integration into the ERP for consolidated reporting.
  • Responsible for ownership of new account and departmental creation for non-ERP entities and acts as gatekeeper to approve and verify the creation and assignment of any new items to ensure consistency with standards
  • Review and analyze intercompany transactions prepared by functional accounting teams to ensure appropriateness of UnityPoint Health financial information.
  • Prepare all consolidation activity necessary to close the month and produce financial statements.
  • Participate in compilation of quarterly and yearly public financial disclosures and manages external financial statements.
  • Manage internal and external reporting deadlines to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other internal departments to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all financial disclosure information.
  • Maintain solid understanding of statistical reporting, KPIs, and other metrics needed to refine and update financial reports.
  • Recommend and implement process improvement initiatives related to data that allow for improvement in the accuracy of financial reporting and increasing the efficiency of gathering information and the completion of recurring reporting cycles.
  • Respond to other departmental requests involving financial information.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and prepares financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and UnityPoint Health financial policies.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Provide analytical review of KPIs and utilizes knowledge of performance metrics to identify trends and highlight changes impacting our financial results.
  • Lead the analysis and review of financial attributes (including account and department assignments) to assist in facilitating various analytical insights and benchmarking capabilities, including definitions of overhead and function and subfunction assignment.
  • Assist with intercompany portions of financial planning and budgeting processes, including working with teams across the entire organization to verify and validate activity and ensure appropriate balancing of transactions.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

Experience:

  • Minimum two years work experience in financial reporting, accounting, or analysis related fields

Liceneses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to understand and communicate concepts and recommendations
  • Strong knowledge of financial statement presentation principles and GAAP
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in an effective and efficient manner
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills to create and maintain controls and processes
  • Detail oriented and strategically minded
