SUMMARY

This position was created to meet the requirements of ACT 96 and all subsequent victim/witness legislation contacting mandates for the District Attorney's Office to provide direct services only to victims and witnesses of crime by adult offenders. This person will be responsible for primarily providing victims with assistance in completing restitution forms, processing said forms for restitution eligibility, relaying restitution request to the Assistant District Attorney and/or Judge, as well as, assisting with Victims Compensation Assistant Program (VCAP) applications & reimbursement. This person shall also advocate on behalf of the victim regarding any issues they may have during the prosecution of a case as it pertains to restitution. The Restitution Coordinator shall assist the victim with information on services available to address their needs. Victims of personal injury and burglary crimes will be afforded the right to be accompanied to any court proceeding by the Restitution Coordinator, should other members of the VWU RASA staff be unavailable. This person will also maintain a computerized victim database through which restitution is tracked. This person will also perform all other RASA related duties as assigned by the Victim/Witness Coordinator or Assistant. The Restitution Coordinator, must attend PCCD's Orientation for New Victim Service Providers within the first six months of the hire and must attend 10 hours of training annually as required by the Grant.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process incoming Restitution Information Forms.
  • Meets with walk-in & phone calls from victims to answer questions regarding restitution and services.
  • Research correct addresses for forms returned to sender, prepare and mails new originals.
  • Updates victim/witness contact information in PMS database.
  • Logs receipt of Forms into Access database.
  • Checks Common Pleas Case Management System for case status.
  • Lists forms received on computerized tracking table.
  • Evaluates restitution requested and notes accurate recommendations for Assistant DAs, contacting victims with questions.
  • Prepares and mails Victims Compensation Assistance Program where appropriate.
  • Acts as liaison with Juvenile Probation Office in adult/juvenile co-defendant cases.
  • Files and updates restitution in appropriate docket.
  • Assist with property return for seized property for prosecution.
  • Provide accompaniment and or education inside and outside of the courtroom to victims when Victim Witness Coordinator is not available.
