A Brief Overview
The System Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key leadership position within our organization, responsible for overseeing the performance of the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) at each of our medical centers, System Medical Staff Office, Care Connections and System Pharmacy Activities. This position will ensure alignment and collaboration across the system, driving the strategy for clinical excellence, access to care, patient safety, quality care, and operational success. The System CMO will play a critical role in promoting system-wide initiatives and ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare while supporting physician engagement, retention, and development across all facilities.
What You Will Do
High-Quality Care and Patient Safety:
* Ensure alignment on system-wide quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance initiatives, driving consistent performance across all entities.
* Oversee and create accountability structure for market and site CMOs for KPIs related to quality, safety and clinical operations KPI
* Assists to ensure market and entity alignment that patients receive the safest and most effective care possible, which includes working with system quality leaders to developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives and addressing safety concerns.
* Collaborate with UHMG/UHMP Presidents, Chief Nursing Officers, the Office of Innovation/Transformation, and other executive leaders to influence and implement best practices, clinical effectiveness, clinical strategies and outcomes management.
* Monitor and ensure compliance with all accreditation and regulatory standards, providing oversight to Peer Review Programs, and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) for the system.
Strategic Vision and System Leadership:
* Participate in the strategic planning process for the entire healthcare system, ensuring clinical excellence is integrated into system goals and objectives.
* Works with the UHMG/UHMP Presidents, Market and entity CMO's in aligning resources to support the medical staff needs of each medical center.
* Ensure medical staff participation in system-wide policy development, clinical education, and organizational initiatives.
Operational and Financial Oversight:
* Provide system-wide leadership in operational and economic planning to ensure the highest quality of care while maintaining financial health and sustainability.
* Work with Care Connections and Pharmacy leaders, Market and entity leadership to evaluate and promote major clinical and technological investments, including equipment, infrastructure, and construction projects that directly impact patient care.
* Drive relentless pursuit of clinical efficiency, care standardization and cost of care reduction.
* Oversee the development and management of system-level budgets, ensuring financial accountability.
Clinical Integration and Population Health:
* Collaborate with the Office of Population health to support and/or lead efforts to integrate care models across the system, ensuring the development of clinically integrated networks and alignment with the organization's Population Health Program.
* Direct system-wide initiatives involving the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring integration and optimization in clinical processes across entities.
* Works with the CMIO to ensure effective data collective and reporting for continuous improvement and provider feedback.
* Assists in developing and monitoring practice patterns for physicians while Championing Patient Centered Care.
* Promotes CPOE and Evidence based practice.
Governance and Medical Staff Oversight:
* Oversee the conduct of medical staff at all entities, ensuring compliance with system-wide Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations.
* Facilitate changes to Bylaws and Regulations as needed and support system-wide educational programs to enhance care delivery and service excellence.
* Act as a resource on credentialing and privileging matters for the system's facilities.
* Advocate for physicians' needs within the health system, balancing the needs of the medical staff with the demands of the organization.
Professionalism Oversight:
* Oversee all matters related to professionalism and ethical conduct of physicians across the system.
* Ensure adherence to the highest standards of professional behavior, accountability, and compliance with medical ethics.
* Supports the UHPS and UHMG/UHMP Presidents, Market and entity CMOs in managing issues related to professionalism, including conflicts, misconduct, and violations of medical staff bylaws or ethical guidelines.
* Promote a culture of respect and accountability across the medical staff.
* Play a key role in driving necessary culture changes, such as promoting physician acceptance of performance improvement metrics and fostering a collaborative team environment.

* Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
