Taft is seeking an Information Governance Data Analyst to support our Information Governance team in our Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis or Minneapolis office.

We are seeking an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented Information Governance ("IG") Data Analyst to support the lifecycle of electronic information created, received, and transferred from the firm, in our Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis or Minneapolis office. Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Work collaboratively with the IG and IT department to execute policies and processes for electronic lifecycle management, including onboarding, offboarding, retention and disposition of electronic client or firm information.
  • Use Taft's data management tools to facilitate the collection, review, upload, and disposition of electronic information housed within Taft's document management system.
  • Import data into Taft's document management system using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL and import tools.
  • Coordinate with relevant Taft personnel to ensure the correct identification, indexing, and locating of electronic collections of both structured and unstructured data.
  • Perform preliminary reviews and provide retention recommendations of electronic repositories across various applications and storage environments using Taft applications, when applicable.
  • Execute database searches, audits and close-out reviews to ensure information is managed according to Taft processes.
  • Utilize Secure Send or other FTP server technology, security and encryption controls, metadata structure, and database reporting to transfer applicable information out of Taft systems.
  • Assist with information clean-up projects.
  • Coordinate with other Taft teams to import data into iManage, docketing applications, or eDiscovery platforms.
  • Troubleshoot data transfer and acquisition issues and report on solutions.
  • Special projects and additional duties as assigned and directed by management.


Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, Interpersonal and Other Requirements:



  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Significant understanding of database tables & structure
  • Sequel/SQL
  • Ability to access, input, analyze, and retrieve information from various computer systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to support multiple priorities simultaneously, accurately, and professionally
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dispersed team
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and report successes and challenges
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information in a secure manner
  • Law firm experience preferred
  • Work requires a high level of mental effort while performing a high volume of problem-solving tasks and performing other essential duties.
  • Work may require irregular hours and may require more than the standard weekly hours to perform the essential duties of the position.


Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working in a professional environment, preferably in a technical role
  • Experience providing exemplary customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Law firm experience preferred but not required
