Work Location Los Alamos National Laboratory - Los Alamos, NM Employment Type Full-Time / Onsite Clearance Type DOE Q Clearance (Position will be cleared to this level) Job Summary / Overview Omega Technical Services is seeking an Engineered Systems Technician II or III for the Detonator Production (DP) Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM. The Engineered Systems Technician will support programmatic equipment maintenance. This position will serve as a member of the DP Infrastructure Planning Office (IPO) team to conduct programmatic equipment evaluations, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance. The maintenance specialist will also support the programmatic preventive maintenance program, master equipment list, and other maintenance systems/ software. Engineered Systems Technician 2
As an Engineered Systems Tec 2, you will perform technical installation and/or maintenance functions supporting engineering activities associated with a wide variety of engineering systems such as: water cooling, mechanical alignment, mechanical fabrication and assembly, vacuum systems, instrumentation and control systems (both hardware and software). Installs, tests, repairs, and maintains systems and equipment. Specific duties may include testing, inspecting, and monitoring system and equipment for safety and efficiency, providing routine and specialized maintenance and/or repair, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating any system or equipment shutdown, upgrade, or installation. Works from documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, layouts, and plans. Work under close supervision in areas involving high consequences for safety; e.g. chemicals, machine tools, and other potentially hazardous areas. Work may be directly related to national security objectives, requiring the individual to protect and maintain sensitive or classified information. The job requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
Engineered Systems Technician 3
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will perform the job duties of the level 2, but with full proficiency and little to no direct supervision. The Engineered Systems Tec 3 will oversee the technical installation and maintenance functions. You will be a resource to mentor entry level tecs on the team.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of equipment or systems.
- You should have the ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.
- Demonstrated experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting systems and/or equipment.
- Experience and skill in the preparation and presentation of systems/equipment reporting.
- Knowledge of the Laboratory's policies, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting equipment and systems maintenance and/or engineering. Ability to interpret and apply knowledge and practical understanding of equipment and systems theory and principles. Ability to work independently and as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
Additional Job Requirements for Engineered Systems Tec 3:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Demonstrated proficiency regarding technical principles, theories, and concepts related to the field.
- Exhibits the ability to apply developing knowledge and skills in the operation and use of diagnostic equipment and measuring devices commonly employed in troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with methods of documentation using established data bases and will be expected to execute assignments within the scope of established procedures or detailed instructions.
- Working knowledge and experience with installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of equipment or systems. Ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.
- Working knowledge and experience and demonstrated apprentice type skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting systems and/or equipment.
- Working knowledge in the preparation and presentation of systems/equipment reporting.
- Working knowledge of the Laboratory's policies, practices, and procedures.
- Working knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting equipment and systems maintenance and/or engineering.
- Must have the ability to work independently and as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
Education/Experience for an Engineered Systems Tec 2: Position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education/Experience for an Engineered Systems Tec 3: Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Mechanical Ability:Knowledge and experience with installation, testing, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electromechanical equipment and systems, as well as demonstrated experience performing advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics, and replacing defective components on electro-mechanical and electronic systems.
Blueprints/Schematics:Demonstrated experience with interpretation of technical drawings, schematics, and other related specifications.
Electrical Experience:Experience with electrical system operations and Automated Logic, as well as experience working with programable logic controllers, PLC's and be familiar with Allen-Bradley in a production-manufacturing environment where production schedules drive demand for attention to detail and minimal equipment down time.
Advanced Mechanical Ability:Experience performing troubleshooting and diagnostics, and replacing defective components on systems involving chemical stripping and etching, as well as experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated preventive and corrective maintenance.
