Position Summary

As McKenney's Director of Preconstruction, you will provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and operational direction to a high-performing preconstruction team. You will foster customer trust by aligning McKenney's resources to deliver responsive, innovative, and value-driven solutions. In this role, you will guide preconstruction services across the organization and play a critical part in strategic planning, training, and company-wide promotion.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 15+ professionals responsible for estimating, budgeting, proposal development, customer engagement, and strategic preconstruction initiatives
  • Collaborate with senior project managers, business development, and marketing teams to align efforts and maximize project success
  • Provide input into and support the execution of company-wide strategic plans
  • Coordinate training programs across all aspects of the construction industry to ensure team expertise and growth
  • Promote McKenney's services and capabilities both internally and externally to drive business development
  • Facilitate the strategic placement of projects within the company to deliver optimal value to customers
  • Lead the development of conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction budgets
  • Oversee the creation of comprehensive project schedules based on conceptual ideas and design inputs
  • Organize preconstruction and construction teams for large, complex projects
  • Cultivate long-term client relationships through proactive service and attention to detail
  • Maintain focus on safety, quality, performance, and customer satisfaction across all preconstruction efforts
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in construction project management
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading a team of 10 or more direct reports
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading preconstruction teams, setting strategic direction, and ensuring team goals, budgets, and deadlines are achieved
  • Expertise in mechanical and plumbing construction estimation and take-offs
  • Ability to guide preconstruction processes based on current construction methodologies, materials, and market trends
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership in implementing technology and leveraging analytics to improve preconstruction processes
  • Proven success building and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical plans to diverse stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, manage large workloads, and collaborate with a wide variety of personalities
