Hourly Pay Range:

$18.84 - $27.32 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Laboratory Assistant I
  • Location: Evanston Hospital
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 4pm-12:30am, e/o weekend and rotating holidays

What you will do:

-Actively promotes patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members. Treats patients with respect and care. Instructs and encourages coworkers to treat patients and hospital staff courteously. Enhances the laboratory image by reacting positively with all customers.

-May assist with performance of patient tests, manually, and through the use of automated clinical laboratory equipment, reagents and or test methodologies. -May prepare histological, microbiological, and clinical pathology including blood, urine, tissue and body fluids. May stain, coverslip slides and distributes specimens as directed.

-Enters test orders per established procedures.

-May assist with quality control processes and procedures to assure that instruments and reagents meet the required standard of performance. -Participates in continuing education, in-services, and lab meetings.

-Performs related clerical and service tasks such as answering phone inquiries from nursing staff and physicians and gives results data as required.

-Maintains a safe work environment by using required protective devices. Handles biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocol.

-May participate in inventory and supply ordering.

-May perform computer functions i.e., call logs, worksheets, outstanding lists. Will use these functions to efficiently manage workload and provide established turnaround times.

-Supports Total Quality Improvement philosophy in daily work by demonstrating respect for people and customer satisfaction. Participates actively in gathering and collecting data for the lab Quality committee as needed.

-Reads and responds to emails in a timely manner.

-Other duties as assigned.
