Covia is looking for a Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at our Chardon, OH facility. As a CI Engineer, you will support an operating environment that embraces the continuous improvement process, implementing and maintaining systems, driving productivity improvements as well as leading, coaching, motivating, and engaging the work teams to accomplish operational objectives
The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:
- Build upon and foster a strong culture of personal and process safety across the organization.
- Work with Plant personnel to support the implementation of the new Covia Operations Management System, with objectives that include:
- Improving work effectiveness and efficiencies
- Implementing Lean Manufacturing Principles
- Providing the tools and approaches needed by teams to deliver
- Assisting to identify systems to support debottlenecking, process recovery and loss prevention
- Facilitate the implementation and sustainability of the Ways of Working. Focus on KPI development,
Process Improvement, Visual Performance Boards, 5S and Skills Training Matrix.
- Serve as the Project Manager overseeing a portfolio of Continuous Improvement (CI) projects for areas of productivity, energy, and growth.
- The Continuous Improvement Engineer will also be heavily involved in the planning, management, coordination, and control of the mineral processing operation. Improving efficiency/reliability will be essential to improve processes and product quality and provide technical support to the Operations team in the resolution of plant problems.
- Collect data and analyze data, write reports, and presenting findings to Plant and senior management
- Continually evaluate personnel and work processes with continuous improvement as the objective.
- Identify novel concepts and approaches directed toward improving operations optimization processes.
- Facilitate local workshops to generate involvement for problem solving and idea generation at all levels throughout the Organization including front line workers.
- Provide Lean manufacturing training to front line and supervisory staff at the Plant.
- Ensure all plant personnel receive thorough training on existing processes and are upgrades on new systems, as required.
- Maintain technical skills by utilizing available training resources.
- Collaborate with cross functional and interdependent departments, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous work experience in either lean manufacturing and/or mining with focuses on production and energy initiatives. Recent graduates or currently enrolled students attending a college university with an expected graduation date before July 2023 will also be considered.
- Required: Currently majoring in or graduated with an accredited BS degree from one of the following engineering/applied sciences disciplines.
- Preferred: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Quality Management, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering or other Engineering discipline. Candidates with additional certifications such as Six Sigma will be strongly considered.
- Other technical experience will be considered, such as an AAS Degree or a BS Degree in a technical field that covers the above listed requirements or other relevant experience.
- Strong technical experiences as demonstrated through technical projects, research or engineering internships.
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills and the with the ability to train Plant employees in problem solving techniques to deliver results.
- Self-motivated to resolve challenges and circumvent obstacles.
- Strong Project Management and process improvement skills.
- Strong analytical and technical skills, ability to solve complex problems, ability to innovate, and a strategic business perspective and financial acumen
