Mass General Brigham (MGB) Enterprise Pathology is a major strategic integrated service with several system-wide initiatives that will create synergies and efficiencies across MGB laboratory locations, including all AMC, specialty and community sites. Enterprise Pathology will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of laboratory testing across MGB hospitals and advance strategic collaborations in clinical excellence, quality, access and cost efficiency. Reporting to the Senior Director for AMC and Specialty Hospitals, Enterprise Pathology, and in close collaboration with the MGBELS Deputy Chair, division chiefs, medical directors and clinical managers, the MGB Director of Operations, Molecular and Tissue Typing Service, is responsible for driving the integration strategy that will ensure the operational, quality, and financial success of both BWH and MGH clinical services related to molecular testing for BWH CAMD and MGH CID, cytogenetics, and tissue typing. This critical leadership role will drive the organization of integrated operations through initiatives including performance benchmarking, service menu determination, utilization management initiatives, revenue cycle management, emergency and resiliency planning, application of standardized human resources policies and career development initiatives (career pathways) and actively participate in guidance for non-faculty compensation programs. The position participates in MGB Pathology and local AMC hospital committees and may lead enterprise-level initiatives as assigned. The role provides expertise and guidance to laboratory clinical managers and medical directors related to operational management, people management/human resources, and budget oversight. The role requires strong management skills and a collaborative approach in working together with leaders from both BWH and MGH to ensure that all related molecular testing and tissue typing testing services meet the needs of local clinicians within the context of alignment with enterprise standards and approaches reached through consensus and formal policy. This individual will also play a pivotal role in the design of the combined operations for these areas that will be realized with the development of the central laboratory. Role is a hybrid role with flexibility for limited remote work (1X per week) and an expectation of weekly on-site presence at all testing locations under their direction; some meetings may occur outside of normal business hours.
1)Works closely with Clinical Division Chiefs, Deputy Chair for MGBELS and Senior Director for AMC and Specialty Hospitals to identify and implement opportunities to provide the highest quality, effective and efficient integration that supports superior clinical service. Participates in a leadership role with work groups advancing AMC integration. Acts as committee member, or assigns delegate, for molecular, cytogenetics and tissue typing ILS committee. Takes on a leadership role with work groups advancing AMC and enterprise integration. Communicates the Enterprise Pathology strategy for clinical services internally and throughout all of BWH and MGH. Works to ensure that direction of Integrated Lab Services work groups aligns with overall goals of the MGB organization 2) In conjunction with Clinical Division Chief, works closely with AMC based clinical managers to establish highly integrated services that support MGB goals of quality and service, and are guided by on-going and future MGB initiatives such as productivity benchmarking, clinical standardization, financial sustainability, buoyant financial performance analysis and budgeting. 3) Works closely with Sr. Director for AMC and Specialty Hospitals, Human Resources leadership and AMC clinical managers to develop, evaluate and implement employee engagement strategies in support of improved staff retention and advancement. Identify potential market equity challenges and advocate for timely market reviews based on established HR metrics (turnover, declined offer rates, time to fill). Advance job grade/skill mix standardization across the BWH and MGH in alignment with MGB career pathways. 4) Determines and prioritizes resource needs (FTE, capital, non-salary expenses) for Anatomic Pathology Service within each AMC, and across the BWH and MGH (local budget rules and authority permitting). Participates in a leadership role with work groups advancing AMC and enterprise integration. 5) Hires and works with clinical managers and other leaders at academic medical centers and helps to develop and position leaders for success. Provides performance review input in a timely manner on an annual basis and identifies areas for growth and professional development opportunities. Grows leadership capabilities of managers to aid in identifying future central laboratory clinical management leadership, and in director succession planning 6) Works with medical director leadership to develop efficient and stable model for medical director test interpretation Education
