Overview

The Field Machinist - Welder is responsible for fabricating and repairing components in the field and at shop sites.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Maintenance and operation of a variety of field machining equipment, including services such as pipe beveling and cutting, line boring, flange facing, among other creative applications.
  • Read prints, view dimensions and samples to repair and/or assemble metal parts.
  • Assemble all components with the help of power and hand tools.
  • Re-machine parts to repair and maintain critical dimensions.
  • Use of stationery and portable boring equipment and machine tools as well as multiple other types of tools to meet specific job needs.
  • Aligning gear cases and motors.
  • Heat treating parts as required.
  • Testing the hardness of materials.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use N.D.T (Magnetic particles and die penetrants).
  • Inspects completed work to determine structural soundness and fit to mechanical part.
  • Ensure proper dimensions, compliance and tolerance levels of finished product is defect free.
  • Cleans and maintains portable machines and welding equipment.
  • Complete all job responsibilities while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of experience working on heavy equipment as Field Technician required.
  • Valid CDL license and a safe driving record required.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures is required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals.
  • Possess knowledge in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics.
  • Must have a complete set of tools capable of working in and around heavy equipment.
  • Must be proficient in welding and cutting of all types
  • Possess a proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to machining
  • Able to operate forklifts, overhead cranes and earthmoving equipment is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, organization and ability to prioritize tasks is required.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills, ability to set and keep priorities and be able to handle stress associated with a fast-paced environment and deadlines.
