DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine and is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The department employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, 168 academic appointees, 331 residents, fellow and postdocs and 479 staff personnel.

Under direction, Research Lead will gather and interpret research data relating to studies with human pluripotent cells and other animal models to investigate mesoderm formation, cardiovascular development and cardiovascular disease. Along with the molecular and cellular biological research, the incumbent will independently analyze and present experimental data and interact with multidisciplinary team. The incumbent will make significant original contributions to data analysis and their dissemination, including authorship of published findings. This position will translate research findings into information that can be easily understood by both experts and non-experts, and will be responsible for converting research findings to manuscripts and progress reports. The incumbent will recommend new technical areas to be discussed or promote more discussions in existing areas of expertise.

Applies extensive knowledge as a research professional with an in-depth understanding of statistical and / or other analysis techniques designed to support research projects of broad scope and complexity. May function as a team lead.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine years (9) of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.

  • Advanced project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team.

  • In-depth knowledge of research function.

  • Advanced skills associated with statistical analysis, database management and systems programming.

  • Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.

  • Knowledge of software for sequencing analysis, such as GATK, bcftools, STAR, ATAC-seq, etc.

  • Advanced skills in analysis and consultation.

  • Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research.

  • Advanced ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
