The Opportunity

The Data Governance Analyst will work with senior members of the team and stakeholders from business units throughout MRSNA, to support development and implementation of a data governance and management program. Duties include assistance in defining, developing and documenting methods, responsibilities, processes to standardize, integrate, protect and store data; monitoring and reporting on data quality; maintaining business rules and data dictionaries; organizing, supporting, coordinating and actively participating in data stewardship activities; supporting and assuming specific responsibilities as they relate to master and reference data management and ownership as well as engaging business leaders to steer the evolution the companies' data assets.

A successful individual will have a strong foundational business and technical knowledge of data governance and management concepts using both current and emerging best practices and technologies. They will enjoy spending a considerable amount of time rolling up their sleeves to solve problems and an aversion to slow pace of execution and the same old ways of doing things.

This role reports to the Data Management and Governance Lead for MRSNA as part of a function that is accountable and responsible for the reliable delivery of data and insights that the business needs to understand performance and adjust strategy and operate smoothly in the face of ambitious growth and changing technology and operating models internally, and a shifting risk and competitive landscape.

Responsibilities

In this position you will:

  • Manage both existing and to be defined reference data sets through the further development of procedures, routines, approval flows and processes ensuring consistency, comprehensiveness, and standardization resulting in a high degree of confidence in MRSNA data.
  • Support and assist in the continued build-out of the reference Data Management (RDM) framework and solution as well as provide input, use case development, and participate in testing as needed.
  • Manage and further evolve the mastery of both our insured and broker party types as well as assist in standing up additional party types and roles as they emerge. This includes further process and procedure development, implementing methodologies surrounding trust rules and match-merge routines in both automated fashion as well as what requires manual review and action.
  • Function as an SME who can represent and provide on hand assistance as it pertains to integration, consumption and interoperability of master and reference data into core underwriting and claims applications.
  • Work closely with the Data Product Owners on a day to day basis ensuring alignment and adoption of standards set for various data dimensions ensuring consistency in reporting
  • Assist in developing a data quality framework that leads to a higher confidence in data through validation of standards and mitigation routines through the establishment of Data Quality processes, rules and avenues of escalation.
  • Help identify and build-out relevant frameworks and solutions for new data domains requiring definition, standardization and harmonization.
  • Assist in documenting, organizing and maintaining appropriate repositories for easy reference and access to all key artifacts.
  • Play an active role in socializing and educating business partners through community of practice routines that inform as well as provide a forum to address data related items as they emerge.
  • Partner with Data, Product Ownership, Analytics, Actuarial, Distribution and Claims teams to ensure consistency in business rules, data models and transformations process.
  • Develop and maintain a glossary of business terms and related data elements inclusive of key attributes such as synonyms and relationships to key domains.
  • Advocate for standardization and control mechanisms with potential to optimize cost and efficiency by reducing long coordination processes and reusing processes and data
  • Assess process against compliance guidelines and security requirements for internal and external data by monitoring and reviewing privacy policies;
  • Clear and transparent communication to stakeholders and teams and developing training and utilization support

Qualifications Skills Profile

This position requires sound technical skills, good judgement, strong operational focus and ability to organize and manage workflow in fast paced environment with focus on service and business value.

Successful candidates will be possess the following skills/capabilities:

  • Technical: baseline knowledge of data concepts and/or experience in a data function, preferably in heavily regulated organizations, with complex operating structures and architectures, and diverse processes for transacting business.
  • Commercial: passionate about solving problems, enjoys connecting the dots between data, strategy and analytics, obsess with quality and details
  • Insurance Knowledge: experience with and knowledge and understanding of insurance processes, terminology and concepts through the insurance life cycle.
  • Organization: able to co-ordinate multiple tasks and make sure work output is delivered on-time and accurately operate in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment with competing project priorities
  • Communication: excellent verbal and written communications skills, listening and teamwork skills. Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and concisely, both verbally and in written form.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience in data governance/management roles with responsibilities inclusive of data domain ownership and stewardship
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Math or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working on data projects involving data engineers, architects and analysts
  • Experience in insurance and/or reinsurance, preferably commercial specialty,
  • Knowledgeable with agile development methodologies and tools (i.e. Jira, AzureDevOps)

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including New York City (NYC), Princeton (NJ), and Philadelphia (PA). The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $86,600-$138,100, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the NYC job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
