Position Description:

The Manager for the Advanced Practice Providers (APP's) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the inpatient services as a member of the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care

The Manager for NP/PA's will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

In addition to direct patient care, the Manager of NP/PA's will provide supervision and coordination of Advanced Practice Providers within the critical care services and implement policies & procedures to maximize efficiency for the program and the Advanced Practice Provider model. Coordinate and supervise the recruitment, training, and evaluation of Advance Practice Providers within Pediatric Critical Care. Participate in division and department activities as a liaison for Advanced Practice Providers as necessary and represent the pediatric critical care APPs to

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  2. Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  3. Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  4. Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  5. Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  6. Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  7. Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  8. Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  9. Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  10. Assists Division Administrator with recruitment activities, such as job description development, resume screening and interviewing.
  11. Facilitates onboarding and coordinates precepting of new APP hires functioning in the inpatient setting and serves as the primary resource for the discussion of roles, expectations, and APP care models with new hires/recruits.
  12. Leads the APP performance evaluation process, (EMERGE). Assists with performance improvement plans, as needed.
  13. Mentors and provides necessary support for professional development by acting as liaison to professional growth opportunities and activities, and/or coordinating profession specific venues for learning.
  14. Facilitates inpatient APP scheduling process, to include but not limited to: vacation/CME request approvals, and inpatient coverage.
  15. Enters, updates, and approves time cards on a monthly basis for APPs.
  16. Works with division leadership to ensure adequate personnel to cover high census periods, as needed.
  17. Manages open encounters to assure timely closure of encounter.
  18. Acts as a resource for the inpatient APP group related to community activities, professional organizations, marketing, and public-speaking forums to educate others about APP and specialty specific topics.
  19. Promotes accountability and professionalism within the practice.
  20. Serves as the key representative of Pediatric Critical Care to the Office of Advanced Practice.
  21. Serve as a key representative on the Departmental or institutional committees for APP practice and professional development.

ADMINISTRATIVE/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Acts as the primary inpatient APP liaison and serves as a consultant between the APPs and Attending Physicians and Nursing Directors to ensure patient care needs are met.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring critical care intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the critical care service.
  2. Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
  3. Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  4. Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the pediatric critical care services.
  5. Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  6. Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  7. Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  8. Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse

Prior experience as a pediatric critical care APP.

Position Requirements:

Advanced Practice Nurse

  • Wisconsin RN license
  • Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
  • Certification as (or eligible for) Advance Practice Nurse (Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner)
  • DEA Certification
  • Certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.
  • CPR certification required.

Physician Assistant

  • Wisconsin PA license
  • Certification by NCCPA
  • DEA Certification
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS Certification may be required depending upon placement.
  • CITI certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire
