We are seeking a talented Senior Project Engineer for our Quincy, MA office to support our New England Transportation/Traffic Practice.

This position is Hybrid.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Oversees or prepares traffic studies including traffic analyses and models for a variety of projects
  • Performs traffic peer reviews of private development projects, preparing written findings and presenting them to municipal boards
  • Oversees or prepares traffic sign, pavement markings, and traffic management plans
  • Oversees or prepares traffic signal design plans and special provisions
  • Oversees or prepares other transportation design elements at a conceptual level
  • Assists Project Managers with the following: planning, coordination, and execution of both large and small projects; complying with assigned project schedules and budget on projects by actively reporting on project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope; developing technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large-scale or more complex projects to produce an effective and quality proposal
  • Prepares technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work
  • Develops technical traffic solutions for complex projects by applying engineering knowledge and skills to produce quality work
  • Assists in the development and execution of the project scope of work
  • Serves as the Technical Lead for the transportation components of more complex projects and be responsible for the technical coordination among other design disciplines and subconsultants
  • Supervises and trains less experienced staff by providing daily guidance and checking their work and progress
  • Maintains quality control within the department by reviewing designs, calculations, and assumptions on projects
  • Prepares for and performs oral presentations to the public, to municipal boards, to clients regarding project deliverables, and to external associations and professional conferences


What we're looking for:



  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field
  • 6+ years of traffic experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer strongly preferred. Will consider candidates working towards licensure within one year in a State(s) where Apex does work or ability to obtain same by reciprocity
  • Knowledge of MassDOT traffic study requirements and the MassDOT design process a plus
  • Must have expertise in Synchro software
  • Experience using SIDRA and PTV Vissim a plus
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Office suite and Adobe
  • Strong safety awareness/practices as well as good record keeping skills
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving history and reliable transportation
