Department: Industrial, Process & Agribusiness (IPA)

Reporting Relationship: Senior Project Manager, IPA

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Chemical Engineer plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. This individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. The Senior Chemical Engineer is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed - both externally and internally. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, clear and frequent communication, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. This person will also actively support the business development process, through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Actively manages assigned projects, driving them to completion. This will require a combination of strong delegation and follow-up, combined with personal execution of work as needed. Project teams will typically be staffed by people in different KFI office locations.
  • Applies principles from science to engineering designs and problems.
  • Develops PFD's, material/energy balances, simulations (ChemCAD), and process engineering calculations.
  • Generates P&ID's and reviews process piping designs.
  • Develops process equipment specifications and supports procurement.
  • Supports and leads project development (FEED/FEL) process.
  • Field experience related to capital project construction and start-up.
  • Actively directs and support process instrumentation selection and controls programming.
  • Provides work direction to other team members, including subcontractors, as assigned.
  • Supports mentoring of younger staff.
  • Approves final equipment selections and drawing submittals.
  • Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
  • Ensures that new opportunities are properly defined, scoped and priced. Actively contributes to all aspects of the business development process (i.e., proposals and customer meetings).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience to include CAPEX projects and construction
  • Demonstrated proficiency in chemical processing projects and facilities, including industries such as specialty chemicals, resins, plastics, polymers, oleochemicals, inorganic chemicals or biotechnology.
  • Possess project management skills and knowledge of related tools and processes.
  • Effective meeting management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Current experience of being the technical lead.
  • Strong decision-making abilities.
  • Adaptable and agile, responsive to quick changes in direction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineering Registration or willingness to pursue this designation is desired.
  • Construction support field experience and/or plant operation experience.
  • Experience in process safety management (PSM) & process hazard analysis (PHA)
  • Strong experience in chemical processing projects and/or facilities.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites.
  • Travel: May include up to 20% domestic travel at times.

Salary Range: $115,000 - $173,000 annually. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
