Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Under the general direction of the Director of Student-Athlete, the Student-Athlete Development Operations Specialist will support, guide, and promote student-athlete development while promoting an environment of academic excellence and fostering student success and retention. While monitoring assigned athletic teams' NCAA eligibility and providing guidance to support academic success, and connecting student-athletes to campus resources.
This individual will be responsible for providing administrative support by assisting in creating and developing academic reports. In addition to coordinating activities, supporting programs, and facilitating department objectives.
Essential Functions

  1. Produces information by developing, transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, filing, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
  2. Creating and updating Excel and Word Documents for Early Grade Checks, Missed Class Letters, and other Academic Reports.
  3. Maintains webpages, social media platforms, and SharePoint sites for department by creating and updating content, identifying and resolving issues and implementing results.
  4. Tracking, monitoring, and reporting on Student-Athletes' Study Hall.
  5. Serve as a liaison between student-athletes, coaches, staff and faculty.
  6. In coordination with the Director of Student-Athlete Development, assist with new student-athlete onboarding including orientation and educational programming.
  7. Manage the certification of designated student-athletes by providing the documentation and monitoring required for compliance and academic eligibility related activities.
  8. Advocate on behalf of student-athlete concerns with the appropriate campus support resources.
  9. Notify the coaching staff in assigned sports on a regular basis regarding student-athlete academic needs and progress.
  10. Assist designated student-athletes with scheduling and registration.
  11. Assist with the recruiting process by meeting with prospective student-athletes and their families. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  12. Operates within an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and University regulations.
  13. Ensures compliance-related activities and paperwork must be accomplished and/or submitted in a complete and timely manner.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One (1) year of experience in academic counseling or career development/coaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in athletics, student development or advisement in a university or college setting.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Banner, and Ellucian.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to initial and continuing eligibility.
  • Ability to work extended hours and select weekends in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of student-athletes in a team atmosphere.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work requires frequent sitting and computer use. Occasional walking, standing, walking across campus, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Constant verbal and written communication. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office and classroom environment with use of computer and phone, occasionally performed in sports facilities. Work performed during standard business hours as well as frequent nights and weekends. Limited travel required.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $18.09 to $23.96 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
