Overview:
We are seeking a Director of Credit and Collections to lead firm-wide credit and collections operations. This strategic leadership role is accountable for managing the firm's accounts receivable portfolio, optimizing collections, overseeing credit risk, and leading a dedicated collections team. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in financial operations and client relationship management, particularly within a law firm or professional services environment. This is a highly visible position that works cross-functionally with attorneys, clients, and firm leadership to support Fredrikson's financial health and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Leadership & Team Management
  • Manage and develop a high-performing credit and collections team.
  • Provide training, guidance, and performance management to ensure service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor, coach team members to foster a collaborative, accountable team culture.
Collections Oversight:
  • Oversee the firm's entire accounts receivable portfolio across all offices and practice groups.
  • Lead strategies to improve cash flow and reduce aging, while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Mange complex and high-risk accounts; escalate when appropriate.
  • Oversee write-offs, billing disputes, and doubtful accounts.
Credit Risk & Policy Development
  • Develop, review, and enforce credit policies in partnership with firm leadership.
  • Evaluate credit applications, establish credit limits, and ensure firm-wide policy adherence.
  • Partner with attorneys and administrative teams to promote credit policy compliance.
Reporting, Analytics & Strategic Planning
  • Lead credit and collections forecasting in alignment with firm revenue goals.
  • Partner with the finance analytics team to conduct comprehensive analyses of the company's overall cash flow projections.
  • Deliver regular dashboards, KPIs, and actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Participate in financial planning and balance sheet management related to receivables/collections.
Training & Knowledge Sharing
  • Conduct workshops and develop materials for attorneys and internal teams on collections best practices and reporting tools.
  • Promote compliance and continuous improvement by sharing industry best practices.
Client Relationship Management
  • Serve as a liaison to clients for credit and collections matters, negotiating payment terms when needed.
  • Resolve disputes professionally and timely while safeguarding the firm's financial interests.
Compliance & Risk Mitigation
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and ethical standards in collections operations.
  • Manage risk proactively, including PCI compliance related to credit card programs.
Technology & Systems Optimization
  • Lead efforts to maintain and enhance collections-related systems, including Elite 3E and other financial tools.
  • Collaborate with IT and Finance to automate processes and enhance analytics.
  • Ensure effective use of dashboards, reports, and tools for performance tracking and strategy execution.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in credit, collections, or financial operations.
  • At least 3-5 years of leadership experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services setting.
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing complex credit and collection strategies.
  • Expertise in law firm billing and collections cycles, client guidelines, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with 3E or similar law firm accounting systems strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, analytics, and interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this position varies by geographical market. In Minneapolis, the estimated starting annual pay range is $150,000 - $200,000 per year. The compensation offered will depend on the candidate's experience, skills, education, professional background, and qualifications.
