JOB DESCRIPTION Summary:
- Executes EHS policies. Monitors business managers to ensure that they and their staff are following policies and procedures.
- Serves as a subject matter expert and provides EHS advice to operational management teams.
- Provides support for assessing and controlling risk in the workplace.
- Carries out investigation of workplace incidents and writes reports recommending action.
- University degree and 1 year suggested minimum experience, or 2-year degree and 6 years suggested minimum experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Able to work on 3rd shift
Main Responsibilities
- Recommends and spearheads specific actions to assure that the plant complies with all federal, state, provincial and local laws related to the health and safety of employees. Administer the plant's risk management program designed to minimize physical and financial exposure resulting from potential, alleged or actual on-the-job injuries.
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with and recommends action to keep the plant in compliance with OSHA and other federal, state, local and provincial health and safety laws.
- Appraises the Plant Manager and HSE Manager of all safety-related situations.
- Directs the Plant Safety Committee.
- Conducts or assists in plant housekeeping and safety inspections. Coordinates corrective action programs relative to safety for the purpose of orientating new employees and updating those on current roll.
- Indoctrinates Team Coordinators as to their duties relative to safety training, safety inspections and injury/illness investigation and Employee's Report of Injury/Illness.
- Assist in accident investigation, assures that proper reports are completed and recommends corrective action.
- Schedules, monitors and recommends action based on pre-employment, return to work and periodic physical examinations.
- Maintains the plant's first-aid facility. Provides first aid treatment of on-the-job illness or injury. Sees that properly trained persons are available to render first -aid on other shifts. Maintains first aid treatment records, reports and standing orders.
- Purchases, distributes, monitors the use of and assures the operability of safety medical supplies and equipment.
- Established and maintains confidential employee medical, worker's compensation and health insurance records and files.
- Keeps up to date on the latest safety procedures and equipment by membership in appropriate organization(s) attendance at pertinent seminars and reading professional journals.
- Procures training for management, supervision and plant at least annually in required courses.
- Maintains a policy and procedure manual and standing orders. Reviews annually.
- Responsible for testing team members for color blindness and color acuity and the maintenance of these records.
- Must be willing to abide by the company handbook regarding following safety rules and job rotations.
- Must be willing to report unsafe conditions, reporting unsafe acts, participating in safety/ergo committees, participating in safety Kaizen events, participating in blue sky initiatives, participating in safety audits, and participating in safety observation feedback events.
- Assist the plant in achieving safety goals and achieving and maintaining AMS objectives.
- Participate in communications events such as plant wide meetings, line meetings, department meetings, and training exercises.
Worker's Compensation Penalty/Refund Program:
- Must be willing to report unsafe conditions, reporting unsafe acts, participating in safety/ergo committees, participating in safety Kaizen events, participating in blue sky initiatives, participating in safety audits, and participating in safety observation feedback events.
- Assist the plant in achieving safety goals and achieving and maintaining AMS objectives.
- Participate in communications events such as plant wide meetings, line meetings, department meetings, and training exercises.
- Will follow and promote environmental management system compliance and commitment to resource conservation.
- Maintains reports and analyzes information relative to worker's compensation costs so to minimize costs and properly administer the plants' Penalty and Refund Adjustment Program where applicable.
- Performs a review with HSE Manager and Plant Manager of the plant worker's compensation loss reports.
- Reviews discrepancies with the plants' workers compensation claims administrator.
Safety Maintenance:
- Maintains Safety Data Sheets of plant (SDS) and policies relating to this program.
- Recommends specific annual safety objectives for the plant.
- Designs and implements of assists with the plant's safety motivational program for the recognition of exceptional safety performance.
- Maintains and reports or assists with monthly statistics (i.e., accident frequency/severity rates) pertaining to the plant and office safety record.
- Coordinates duties, training and education of Plant Safety Committee.
Fire Protection:
- Coordinates the establishment, maintenance and training of the plant's fire safety program.
- Prepares a plant evacuation plan and secures training for employees in the use of the plan in case of fire or another emergency.
- Procures training for employees in general fire dangers specific to extinguishers and hoses, etc., no less than annually.
- Maintains liaison with local fire department personnel.
- Performs other duties as required.
4.0 Qualification Requirements:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Education and Experience:
- Degree in safety, industrial hygiene or a related specialty preferred. Or certification in specialty areas and a minimum of 2 years of experience is a functional safety role.
- Minimum of an OSHA 30 certification. Must possess a current Adult CPR/AED/First Aid certification. Additional medical experience is a plus.
- Familiar with employment laws and regulations (i.e. OSHA, EEOC, Workers Compensation etc.). Must be computer literate. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
