Primary Purpose

Manage and safeguard noncash value patient personal belongings during their stay in the hospital. Collects and processes property consistent with departmental policy and state law. Maintains reports associated with collection, handling, disposal and destruction of property. Returns property to patients or their representatives upon discharge in a timely manner.

Minimum Specifications

Education

Must have a Highschool diploma

Experience

Must have two years of relevant work experience.

Must have customer service experience.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

May have an equivalent experience to substitute for the education requirements.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Skills or Special Abilities

Must have effective oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to make sound judgments.

Must be able to deal with the public and fellow employees in a tactful and diplomatic manner.

Customer service experience preferred.

May be subject to further written and/or oral pre-assignment testing.

Experience in working with EMR preferred.

High attention to detail preferred.

Must be able to perform effectively in high-pressure, time sensitive environments while managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Must be comfortable with technology and healthcare software applications.

Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  1. Collects and processes patient belongings to ensure property is accurately identified and chains of custody are maintained in accordance with laws, policies, and procedures.
  2. Ensures equipment is issued in a timely manner and consistent with policies.
  3. Performs office support to ensure property (evidence) is properly entered into healthcare software applications and computerized files.
  4. Maintains key control within Police Department to ensure broken and missing keys are replaced and verified to ensure that passage way access is controlled according to policies and procedures.
  5. Maintains a positive working relationship with PHHS patients, visitors and staff to promote customer satisfaction while performing security assignments.
  6. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor in support of the overall goals and mission of the hospital.
  7. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in the security field by attending seminars/workshops and reading professional journals. Integrates this knowledge as appropriate into current work practices.
  8. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern the department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
  9. Provides effective hand-off to Guest Service staff when not on shift.
  10. Provides assistance in related areas and other assigned duties to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  11. Performs other work as requested that is reasonably related to the employeeAs position, qualifications, and competencies.
