Position will be posted until filled. The Controller is responsible for managing the financial operations of the Association, Accounts Payable, General Ledger Accounting, and Financial Reporting, ensuring that all financial operations support the Association's long-term objectives. The Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Controller establishes and maintains the Association's financial accounting policies and procedures and assures compliance with such. They ensure accurate and timely reporting of the Association's regulatory, financial, and shareholder reports and ensure overall accuracy, completeness, and maintenance of the Association's general ledger. The Controller proactively partners with critical functions across the Association, especially Loan Accounting leadership to ensure seamless operations in the Accounting Department. They collaborate with Business Delivery Teams to maintain and continuously improve the Association's financial accounting systems. They work closely with internal and external auditors and the Farm Credit Administration. Collaborates across the Association as a trusted business partner to achieve strategic goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Oversees daily operations and functions of the Financial Accounting Department ensuring effective and efficient use of time and resources.
- Oversees the accurate preparation and timely distribution of the Association's monthly financial reports, regulatory reports, and annual and quarterly shareholder reports in compliance with GAAP and FCA regulations.
- Leads team to analyze month-, quarter-, and year-end general ledger accounts for significant variances and unusual transactions, conducting investigative research on discrepancies as appropriate and reporting anomalies, trends, or other insights.
- Monitors the progress of all financial accounting initiatives, providing strategic direction and resolution to complex and escalated issues.
- Leads team to research technical tax and accounting issues for compliance.
- Proactively researches and implements new accounting and regulatory standards as applicable.
- Ensures accounting and reporting internal controls are designed, implemented and operating effectively including maintaining appropriate documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with functional department leaders and Association Business Delivery Teams to ensure synchronization and alignment between key enterprise systems, efficient workflows, data accuracy, and enhancements to the customer and employee experience. Champions change and continuous improvement in accounting processes and procedures.
- Leads by example, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the Financial Accounting Department.
- Employs, directs, and develops financial accounting staff through effective communication of the Association's objectives, delegation of responsibilities, job descriptions, and clear identification of expectations through standards of performance.
- Provides mentoring, leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to build, maintain, and improve the quality and depth of the financial accounting team.
- Establishes and oversees maintenance of the Financial Accounting department's policies, procedures and work instructions, including procedure workflows.
- Promotes and enhances financial accounting processes through continuous improvement and automation initiatives to ensure accurate accounting data, efficient processing methods, and timely reporting. Leads initiatives to modernize financial systems and leverage data analytics for predictive insights and performance optimization.
- Collaborates with Head of Loan Accounting to ensure overall Accounting department operations run efficiently and effectively, proactively identifying issues and collaborating to solve problems as needed.
- Reviews new initiatives and projects as contemplated within the organization to understand the financial and tax implications to the Association.
- Assists in the coordination and completion of financial statement, regulatory and internal control audits.
- Data Owner for all financial accounting-owned data elements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

LEVELS OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED: The Controller will oversee a diverse team of financial professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure peak performance and professional growth. The Controller directly or indirectly supervises many employees including training, development, and performance evaluation. The Controller makes independent decisions and works under general administrative direction of the Chief Accounting Officer. Serves as a strategic advisor to the Chief Accounting Officer and executive leadership, providing insights that drive financial performance and operational efficiency. TYPICAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent. CPA certification is required. Public accounting experience is preferable.
- At least 10 years accounting experience with at least 7 years in a management capacity. Financial services industry experience is preferred.
- Solid understanding of advanced accounting principles.
- Must be proficient in organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy.
- Ability to assign workflows and supervise others.
- Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills.
- Acute attention to detail.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the use of a PC, including e-mail, word processing, electronic spreadsheet software, and automated accounting applications. Knowledge of Alteryx and PowerBI is preferred.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and work in a typical office setting. Employee will be sitting for extended periods of time and work at a computer for an extended period of time. Ability to talk and hear, sit and use their hands and fingers, and reach in all directions is essential in performance of the job. Some lifting and moving of items up to 25 pounds required. Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.Desire and ability to travel domestically, up to 25%, is required.
FULL-TIME REMOTE: These roles and job functions can be done remotely, while maintaining our strong commitment to customer service and our business goals. Employees are welcome to come to an office to work if needed, and some travel for team meetings will be required.
PAY RANGE: Minimum $149,798.87 - Max $299,597.73 Annual
This range is reflective of the national salary average for this position and will be adjusted using geographic variance for physical location of the hired candidate. American AgCredit may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.
Reflected is the national base pay range and title offered for this job at the current level. Compensation, title, and job level may be adjusted based on candidate qualifications including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. Salary offered, within the applicable range, is one component of the total rewards package offered to candidates.
