We're looking for a passionate and proactive Transportation Planner II to join our team and contribute to projects that span the spectrum of planning, from transit to freight, bike/ped to highways, and everything in between.

HDR is looking for a Transportation Planner II to join our Alaska team. We are seeking a technical mid-career transportation and community planning professional to serve as a key member of our growing Planning Practice. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality planning solutions, ensuring technical excellence, and providing support to senior and junior staff. The primary duties include providing transportation planning for highways, state agencies, cities and counties. This individual will collaborate and/or coordinate with teams consisting of multi-discipline planners, engineers, and technicians. This person will serve on project teams as a key planning subject matter expert for local, regional and state transportation or community planning projects.

Planning products and projects can include but are not limited to:



  • Long range and area transportation plans
  • Corridor plans and studies
  • Forecast modeling & Traffic analysis
  • Safety Action & Complete Streets Planning
  • Transit, Bike, and Pedestrian planning
  • Aviation and Ports master planning
  • General Transportation planning


In delivering high quality planning products and services you will perform, in general, many of the following duties, tasks, and functions:



  • Data assimilation, management and analysis
  • Conduct research and literature reviews
  • Engage, Hold Meetings with and Interview Clients, Stakeholders and the Public
  • Preparation of constraints mapping, existing conditions, requirement
  • Prepare required documents such as categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, environmental impact studies and other technical reports
  • Assist in preparation for and participate in public information meetings and hearings
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications



  • 10 years' experience with transportation planning
  • Masters in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP)
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
  • Professional Transportation Planner (PTP)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in planning and design
  • AICP certification desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Extensive graphics and report document production experience
  • Experience with GIS
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • May require the ability to travel
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
