GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the program director, instructors, preceptors, and lead technician, the pharmacy technician trainee will successfully complete the didactic, simulation and experiential components of the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) Pharmacy Technician Training Program within the predefined duration.

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee will perform a variety of duties including assisting in the preparation and packaging of medications, distribution and delivery of medications, maintaining proper inventory levels, and keeping appropriate records and documentation.

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee must complete a minimum of 400 credit hours to meet the requirements of the program per ASHP/ACPE standards.

Prior to beginning the training program, each Pharmacy Technician Trainee must register with the District of Columbia (DC) Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee. Pharmacy Technician Trainee must provide DC Board of Pharmacy registration to be displayed conspicuously in the Pharmacy within 30 days of starting Technician Training program. Upon successfully completing the JHHS pharmacy technician training program, the pharmacy technician trainee must obtain a Pharmacy Technician registration with DC Board of Pharmacy and work as a pharmacy technician at Sibley Memorial Hospital - Johns Hopkins Medicine for a minimum of 1 year.

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee must also obtain certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 90 days of completion of the Pharmacy Technician training program.

Minimum Education and Experience:



  1. Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate
  2. Demonstrate appropriate reading skill by achieving a score of 70% or higher on pre-enrollment reading comprehension competency
  3. Demonstrate basic mathematical calculations skills by achieving a score of 70% or higher on pre-enrollment math competency



Shift: Full-Time, Rotating Shift schedule, which includes weekend & holiday work.

Salary Range: Minimum 18.00/hour - Maximum 18.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
