Summary
The Accounting Specialist I may perform various duties within the department. The position monitors expenses and accounts while computing, classifying, recording, and verifying numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records. Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties in this position may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepares vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records, and reviews for accuracy.
- Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions.
- Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases.
- Monitors accounts payable and receivable to ensure that payments are up to date.
- Reconciles general ledger accounts with various registers.
- Codes data for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures.
- Assists in tracking and auditing travel activities, expenses, and payments.
- Experience using Deltek Costpoint is helpful.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience helpful. BS Degree in accounting from an accredited university a plus. Ability to demonstrate discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality a must. Ability to maintain high level of attention to detail required.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Deltek software; Database software; Excel Spreadsheet and Microsoft Office Word Processing software.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours.
