General Information:

The Department of Marketing at James Madison University (JMU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position which will begin in the 2026-27 academic year. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with a standard teaching load of 9 credit hours per semester.

About the Department: The Department of Marketing is an academic unit of the College of Business with 19 full-time faculty and over 900 undergraduate majors. The department is home to several marketing student organizations and honor societies. The faculty place a primary emphasis on the undergraduate degree program where students may pursue an optional concentration in professional sales or digital marketing. The curriculum emphasizes experiential learning through client-based and/or practical projects, marketing internships, professional certification preparation, study abroad programs, and career networking events. Additionally, the department values participation in regional and national intercollegiate competitions such as the National Collegiate Sales Competition and the AMA Marketing Chapter Competition. JMU's Department of Marketing is ranked in the top 10% nationally for Best Marketing Bachelor's Degree Schools by College Factual. The JMU Center for Professional Sales has earned the Department of Marketing a designation as one of the Sales Education Foundation's Top Universities for professional sales education.

Scholarship plays an important role for the department's 10 tenured and tenure-track faculty. Marketing faculty have published in many of the discipline's leading journals, including the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business Research, and the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management. The Department of Marketing at JMU has also built a positive reputation in pedagogical research with contributions in journals such as the Journal of Marketing Education and Marketing Education Review.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The position has teaching responsibilities in business and marketing, with a primary focus on teaching principles of marketing within the 3-credit marketing component of COB 300. COB 300 is a hallmark junior-level integrated business course that brings together finance, management, marketing, and operations in a team-based setting, where faculty work collaboratively across disciplines to guide students in developing comprehensive business plans. Secondary teaching responsibilities will include other courses within the marketing curriculum as needed.

The successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda that leads to scholarly publications and contributes to the academic reputation of the department and college. Research expectations align with AACSB standards and support the candidate's ongoing qualification as a Scholarly Academic.

In addition to teaching and scholarship, the successful candidate will engage in service activities as assigned, including participation on departmental- and college-level committees and attending campus events, and pursue other meaningful service to enhance the university, community, and profession.

This is not a remote position, and candidates will need to be available for on-campus activities on multiple days throughout the week during the 10-month contract period.

Qualifications:

Required:
* Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Marketing or a related field from an AACSB-accredited institution with a conferred degree no later than December 31, 2026.
* At least one complete semester (or summer session) of independent teaching experience.

Preferred:
* Experience or demonstrated potential to teach COB 300D, a large-size course that integrates principles of marketing content with a comprehensive business plan project.
* Ability to teach additional courses within the marketing curriculum as departmental needs evolve.
* Demonstrated potential to establish a productive research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications.
* Potential for contributing to departmental and college level service in a collegial manner.
