Litigation Counsel

Summary

We are seeking a proactive, commercially minded, and motivated attorney to provide legal services for litigation matters as part of our Global Litigation & Disputes team. This position sits within our US litigation team and will primarily support commercial litigation matters, with the ability to support the labor and employment litigation team also.

The role involves direct interaction with internal clients and external parties, such as outside counsel, clients, vendors, and other third parties, to provide litigation support across all of JLL's business lines. As a valued member of our Legal & Compliance team, you will gain exposure to a broad range of risks and make a real impact on the company's litigation management program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support litigation and disputes involving JLL
  • Counsel and advise business clients on disputes and various commercial issues
  • Draft and review legal documents such as pre-litigation demand letters, pleadings, motions, briefs, and agreements
  • Manage and supervise outside counsel in disputes and litigation, including strategy and budget
  • Analyze and manage litigation or other disputed/contested matters, including responding to third-party discovery, defending depositions and preparing witnesses for depositions and trial testimony, and managing collections matters
  • Manage document collection process, and negotiate deadlines and discovery response parameters with subpoenaing counsel
  • Manage subpoena disputes, including supervision of outside counsel for discovery motion practice
  • Participate in mediation, arbitration, negotiations and settlement discussions, evaluating risks and proposing favorable resolutions
  • Work with minimum supervision on routine projects, and moderate supervision on more complex or sensitive matters
  • Interface independently with senior business client contacts
  • Prepare and deliver training to internal stakeholders on lessons learned
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes, ensuring compliance with legal standards

Qualifications

  • Graduate of ABA accredited law school and admitted to the bar of the State of Illinois
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience handling commercial litigation cases in a law firm and/or in-house environment. Background in general business litigation and discovery, both at the federal and state court level, required
  • Consistently exhibits a high level of competence in all of the professional and interpersonal skills necessary for recognized professional performance
  • Strong analytical and advisory skills, including the ability to review, evaluate and counsel business clients on complex and routine legal questions relating to various litigation issues
  • Ability to navigate multi-jurisdictional geographic scope and master procedural and discovery rules in jurisdictions all over the country
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and senior management, outside legal counsel and opposing party's counsel
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other attorneys, staff, and clients.
  • Curious, innovative mindset to proactively seek and champion continuous improvement and drive efficiencies
  • Strong technology skills and ability to learn new information technology systems with ease
  • Champion of ethics and integrity, trustworthy with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Estimated total compensation for this position:

150,000.00 - 160,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
