Are you passionate about employee communications and engagement? Have you developed communication plans, written for executives, managed internal channels and produced creative, multimedia content? Symetra has an opportunity to join our team as an Employee Communications Manager.

About the role

The senior communications specialist is a key contributor to the Corporate Communications team, responsible for a wide range of employee communications functions and tasks. The role is responsible for successfully developing content and managing channels to inform and engage employees, in support of the company's strategic plan. You will serve as communication lead for public affairs, community relations, sports sponsorship, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office and Symetra's network of employee resource groups.

What you will do



  • Serve as communication lead for key clients, managing long-range communication and engagement plans and day-to-day communication support for Public Affairs, Community Relations, Sponsorships, and DEI office and Employee Resource Groups


  • Develop and produce communications content including news articles, feature stories and profiles, emails, videos, presentations, slideshows, photos, graphics and Teams posts for employees.
  • Manage and evolve editorial calendar and employee channels including weekly email newsletter, intranet and all-employee channels in Microsoft Teams.
  • Provide support for internal employee-centric events, including town halls, coffee chats, ERG events and the Symetra All-Employee Meeting.
  • Develop and manage internal communication and project plans for teams, initiatives and events as assigned.

Compensation

$85,400 - $142,300 annually plus eligibility for Company Annual Bonus program

Who you are



  • High school diploma required
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing/PR, Media or Journalism or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of relevant communications work in a corporate setting, preferably within a mid-size to large company.


  • Proven ability to develop and implement communications plans based on business goals and objectives.
  • Strong writing, copyediting and proofreading skills in support of their own work and the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in clear, easy-to-understand terms. Knowledge of intranet best practices. Experience with building employee surveys and analyzing and reporting results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, MS Forms and Adobe products.
  • Skilled in building strong relationships at all levels of the organization including senior leadership.
