Job Title: Lead Fiber Optics Technician
Location: Ridgecrest, CA at the China Lake Naval Base
Clearance Level: Gov't Secret Clearance eligible, can obtain upon offer and start with interim clearance

SUMMARY
The role of a Fiber Optic Technician involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables, which are crucial for high-speed data transmission and communication infrastructure. These technicians play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and performance of telecom networks, internet connections, and various other communication systems that depend on fiber optic technology. Their expertise contributes significantly to the technological advancements and connectivity that define modern enterprises and services.
Key Responsibilities
A Fiber Optic Technician's primary responsibilities include:
Installing fiber optic systems and ensuring their proper function and alignment.
Testing and troubleshooting issues with the fiber network and implementing necessary repairs or adjustments.
Maintaining detailed records of fiber optic infrastructure, anomalies, and corrective actions.
Conducting regular inspections and performing system upgrades as required to meet evolving technological standards.
Coordinating with project managers and other engineering staff to streamline network operations.
Providing training and support to junior technicians and other team members.
Key Tasks and Duties
The day-to-day tasks of a Fiber Optic Technician may include:
Reading and interpreting maps, blueprints, and diagrams necessary for fiber optic system installations.
Splicing and terminating fiber optic cables to improve network performance.
Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements during all operations.
Communicating with customers and clients to understand their fiber optic needs and ensuring customer satisfaction with the network solutions provided.
Education and Certification Requirements
Certification from recognized institutions such as the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) or similar certifying bodies is highly preferable and often required.
Proven experience in fiber optics installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, usually obtained through hands-on job experience and training programs.
A solid understanding of industry-standard protocols and equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and collaborating with team members.
AS a lead you must have
Senior Fiber Optic Technician Support Services
Minimum of five (5) plus years' experience with the following: fiber optic network cabling installations, splicing, polishing,
cleaving, connecting, fusion splicing, testing, terminations (fusion and mechanical), electro-mechanical connectorization,
assembling, and documenting; Cat 6, Coax, and fiber optic cabling; operating test equipment for evaluating fiber optic and
copper connected components, sensors and systems, experience working with Corning, Exfo, Fujikura, Sumitomo ABF,
and Fluke Networking equipment. The ability to splice optical fibers, optimize splicing procedures of specialty fibers, is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions
Contractor site with 0%-10% travel possible. General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
Strength Demands
Sedentary - 10 lbs. Maximum lifting, occasional lift/carry of small articles. Some occasional walking or standing may be required. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
