Actuarial Analyst, NA FL North American Financial Lines Pricing Actuarial How does this role contribute to our collective success?

As a member of the actuarial team supporting the North American Financial Lines business unit, this individual will directly contribute towards managing the portfolio strategy of the Financial Lines book. They will proactively engage with Reserving, Risk Management, Finance, Claims, and Data & Analytics colleagues to achieve desired business outcomes and implement business strategies.

What will you do in this role?
  • Support the North American Financial Lines Business Unit through profitability studies, price monitoring, planning, and new business opportunity analyses.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly reporting processes, including renewal rate monitoring
  • Support portfolio monitoring analyses, work closely with underwriters to identify issues, discuss opportunities, assist in the development of action plans and monitor the impact on the book of business
  • Support selection of loss ratios in the financial plan, with consideration of business strategies, market conditions, mix of business, loss trend, loss costs and reinsurance structures
  • Support the Underwriting team with AdHoc requests including (but not limited to) account pricing, rating model support, KPI summaries, etc
  • Support the filings team with the data and exhibits needed for rate filings.
  • Collaborate with Data and Analytics colleagues to implement Power BI dashboards.
  • Mentor a Year-Round Intern.
  • You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
About You:

What you need to have:
  • At least 3 years' experience in a pricing actuarial role, FL background highly desired
  • Progress towards Associateship in the Casualty Actuarial Society, or other relevant actuarial organization.
  • Advanced user of Excel and can perform lookup functions, pivot tables and nested IF statements to create analyses from multiple large data sets.
  • Experienced user of SQL with knowledge of how to query data.
  • Self-starter, proactive and a quick learner. Willing to question and investigate.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to establish credibility with senior underwriters and business unit leaders.
  • Attention to detail with work that is technically sound.
  • Timeliness of delivery and appropriate prioritization when there are conflicting demands.
What we prefer you to have:
  • Understanding of Actuarial Methods. Ability to produce an estimate of Ultimates from raw data.
  • Experience querying complex data.
  • Experience building Excel tools.
Role Factors:
  • Show continued progress on actuarial exams.
  • Be in the office 3 days per week.
  • Occasional travel for business.
What we offer:

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $120,000 to $140,000 (NY). Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate performance and your individual performance.
