Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The MRI Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of inpatient and outpatient MRI services at the UCI Health - Irvine campus. Ensures efficient workflow, high-quality imaging, and adherence to all regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards. This role provides direct supervision to MRI technologists, oversees staffing schedules and daily workflow coordination, and ensures adequate coverage to meet the imaging demands of inpatient, outpatient, and procedural areas. In collaboration with leadership this position participates in the recruitment, onboarding, training, and competency evaluation of technologists, and supports performance management activities including education, quality assurance, and corrective action when necessary. Coordinates equipment service needs, assists with capital planning for equipment replacement, and ensures timely resolution of technical issues to minimize downtime. Acting as a liaison between technologists, radiologists, referring physicians, and other departments, addresses service-related concerns and promotes stakeholder satisfaction. This position requires expert-level knowledge of MRI equipment and protocols, with the ability to perform and guide staff through complex and advanced imaging procedures. Fosters a culture of clinical excellence, continuous learning, and operational improvement while supporting departmental initiatives, maintaining compliance, and contributing to a patient-centered care environment.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical MRI concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel in English
  • Venipuncture Certification
  • Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunction sin order to contact appropriate service personnel
  • Must be able to participate in on call rotation and work weekend rotations
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years recent MRI experience in an Adult Acute Care Facility
  • Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity
  • In-depth knowledge of MRI equipment in order to operate and monitor the relevant technology
  • Demonstrated subject matter knowledge of MRI and ability to apply principles to ensure operations meet regulatory standards
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking process
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • BLS Required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MRI protocols, safety standards (including Zone 4 safety), and contrast administration guidelines
  • Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner. Skills to coordinate schedules of the patient, doctor, technologists, and nurse to serve the patient in a timely manner
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, radiology technicians, and other clinical staff
  • ARRT-MR within six (6) months from date of hire
  • ARRT license/certification within six (6) months from date of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Master's degree
  • Bachelor's degree
