THE POSITION

Additionally, you will also gain certification on essential equipment for your work site and familiarize yourself with the department's work regulations, safety protocols, and local reporting procedures. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will acquire the necessary skills and experience to operate highway construction and maintenance equipment while also engaging in various manual labor tasks as part of a highway or bridge maintenance team.

You will undergo training to obtain the required licenses and certifications for operating equipment such as Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. It will be crucial to perform and document pre- and post-operation checks, as well as make field adjustments to ensure safe operation and reduce equipment wear. When not operating machinery, you will assist with a range of manual labor duties, utilizing both motorized and non-motorized hand tools, including shovels, rakes, hammers, chain saws, compressors, and patching machines.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs
  • Overtime, travel, and shift work as required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,526 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
