Job Description

The Director of Category Management controls the spend for DPS Controls Division as part of a global team. The scope of spend for the position is 400-450 million Euros.

You will lead a global team of 6 people who will develop and implement professional sourcing strategies for multiple categories and product groups within Controls business. The position reports to the Sr. Director of Strategic Procurement, Controls Division. Candidates applying should have experience in the commodity management with strong business acumen and negotiation skills.

Job Responsibilities

Manage the team whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.




  • Develop and implement sub-category strategies and supplier strategies.
  • Foster a closer relationship with suppliers enabling both of us to thrive as strong business partners
  • Lead value-based negotiations with suppliers to achieve annual cost savings and payment term improvements.
  • Manage escalated supplier topics including performance, capacity and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance for contracts and certifications. Support contractual disputes.
  • Proactively understand key stakeholder business trends and requirements and inform proactively about relevant trends across Danfoss
  • Understand the commodity market and how this impacts the part categories.
  • Pursue environmental targets with suppliers
  • 15-20% Travel may be expected

Background & Skills

Required (basic) qualifications -




  • Master's or bachelor's degree: Business, Engineering or other related.



  • 10+ years' experience in Procurement, Sourcing, or Supplier Management.



  • 5+ years' leadership experience.




Preferred qualifications -




  • Experience working with foundry and machining industry.



  • Experience sourcing custom engineered products.



  • Experience working with teams in global environment.




Job Criteria -




  • Ability to set own priorities to succeed management of multiple high-profile suppliers.



  • Ability to lead complex negotiations and can apply new tactics to changing situations. Guide other professionals in negotiations.



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills



  • Strategic thinker with the ability to lead teams to create and execute a strategic plan.



  • Strong business acumen (operations and financial understanding)
