Hours for this role are PRN, so 4 shifts a month


Responsibilities

As a Group Facilitator you will be a vital member of the Recreation Therapy department by providing structured group activities for children, adolescents and adults in inpatient units. This role emphasizes a client-centered and interactive approach, promoting the development of new coping skills, appropriate social interactions, and physical activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Activity Facilitation: Design and implement structured group activities focused on independent living skills, recreation and leisure skills, team building, and other essential life skills for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness.

  • Direct Care Provider: Serve as a direct care provider by managing the milieu and supervising participants during group sessions, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Recreation Therapy team and other treatment team members to create a therapeutic environment that fosters client growth and development. Communicate effectively regarding patient treatment, progress, and any concerns.


Qualifications

  • Two years post-secondary education in Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, or a closely related field, or 2 years of experience in a mental health setting with a pediatric population required. (COTAs encouraged to apply as we develop our OT/RT program in the inpatient setting.)
  • Employee must be able to work weekends (every other) and up to two nights per week until 8 pm.
  • Ability to identify and manage group dynamics and skill in behavior management is required
  • Ability to develop therapeutic rapport with patients, assist patients with skills practice and assist with crisis intervention (including de-escalation and safety holds)
  • Ability to participate in treatment planning for clients through observation, therapeutic intervention, and providing feedback and evaluation regarding patient progress
  • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
  • Skills to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations; make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances; and after training, be able to manage disruptive and explosive patients.
  • Must be available to provide coverage for other team members as assigned.

Compensation for this role ranges from $18-23 per hour depending on education and experience.
