Position Description

The Controls & Electrical Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and documenting electrical and control systems for industrial equipment, machinery, or building systems. This role involves creating detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using CAD software, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and document electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts for commercial chiller products.
  • Specify and select appropriate components including sensors, controllers, relays, contactors, and VFDs.
  • Develop PLC logic, HMI screens, and control algorithms for efficient and safe operation of chiller systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems within the chiller architecture.
  • Review and interpret codes, standards, and specifications (NEC, UL, ASHRAE, etc.) to ensure product compliance.
  • Support prototyping and testing activities, troubleshooting controls and electrical issues on new and existing products.
  • Support Sales and Warranty in addressing questions from Customers. Identify root causes, implement immediate and long term corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain BOMs and documentation in alignment with product development processes.
  • Assist in sustaining engineering activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical and control system design, preferably in commercial HVAC or refrigeration systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design tools.
  • Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI development tools.
  • Strong understanding of control theory, motor control (including VFDs), and sensor integration.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with UL/cUL/CE certification processes.
  • Familiarity with Carel or MCS Controllers
  • Familiarity with energy modeling or control strategies for optimizing energy efficiency in HVAC applications.
