DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine and is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The department employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, 168 academic appointees, 331 residents, fellow and postdocs and 479 staff personnel.

Under close supervision the incumbent will assist the Principal investigators (PIs) and other lab members. Procedures will include but not be limited to assisting with PCR-based genotyping, cell cultures and light microscopy of cardiac tissues, and other cells. Incumbent will also be involved with mouse handling and general lab organization procedures. Will also interact with staff and faculty, postdoctoral scholars and other students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in lower division education in biology, psychology, physiology, molecular biology or other health-related field and experience in order to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a research setting.

  • Demonstrated experience with animal handling and husbandry, tissue culture and basic molecular biology skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in record keeping, with strict attention to detail. Ability to organize tasks, documents, and materials with efficiency and accuracy.

  • Demonstrated computer experience using word processing applications, creating spreadsheets and reports, and entering data into databases and spreadsheets. Operating knowledge of e-mail messaging and automated calendaring systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, using tact and diplomacy with a diverse group of people.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work in an environment where biological, chemical and radiological hazards are present.

  • Must be willing to work overtime and occasional weekends if necessary as research dictates.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $41,551 - $48,170 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.90 - $23.07

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
