Staff IT Analyst III - API Governance Enablement

What you'll do:

The Staff IT Analyst III will be responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive API governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the secure and efficient management of APIs across the enterprise. This role will address identified gaps in API risk management, controls, threat modeling, lifecycle standards, and performance monitoring. This position will develop and institute API-specific policies and procedures that address API identification, risk management techniques, and responsibility lines to evaluate and assess the controls environment. This role will create, maintain, and periodically update API risk-based metrics to align with enterprise risk tolerances. The job will play a role in establishing API minimum security requirements to address API-related risks, including authentication requirements, IP address limiting, error handling, and alert ruleset management. The role is expected to improve API oversight with the development of an API lifecycle methodology, both for internal users and external customers. This function includes generating and formalizing API data flow diagrams for the major API ecosystems. You will be required to regularly track and report to the executive team on risks that exist in the environment and create plans to remediate open risks.
  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide API risk management strategy to identify, track, assess, and mitigate risks associated with APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across L2, L3, 2LOD, Risk, etc., to ensure alignment with governance policies.
  • Establish and enforce API-specific targeted controls, including IP input validation, rate limiting, and authentication.
  • Regularly evaluate potential risks and threat vectors specific to APIs.
  • Define and maintain API lifecycle requirements, standards, policies, and procedures related to performance, traffic, design, reporting, and error handling.
  • Balance governance and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) as they relate to the API lifecycle management framework.
  • Enhance visibility into API performance by ensuring all custom-developed API usage is monitored via managed gateways.
  • Provide training and support to development teams on API governance best practices.
  • Monitor and report on API governance metrics and compliance.

What you'll need:

  • 7+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in API management, governance, and security.
  • Experience in Operational and/or Development Engineering or Development is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with API lifecycle management and performance monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced in process and data analysis within a specific domain or functional area utilizing demonstrated critical thinking skills.
