Job Title:Community Mortgage Loan Officer Job Description:

Summary:
This position is responsible for selling and originating residential mortgage loans with a focus on serving low-to-moderate income individuals and underserved communities. Develop and maintain relationships with borrowers, community partners, real estate professionals and internal team members to promote access to homeownership and financial empowerment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Originate mortgage loans in alignment with community lending goals, including Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Conventional and affordable housing programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, housing counselors, real estate agents and other referral sources.
  • Educate borrowers on mortgage products, homebuying process and financial literacy, especially first-time homebuyers. Cross-sell financial products to qualified prospects.
  • Conduct outreach events, workshops and seminars in the community to promote lending services and affordable housing initiatives.
  • Guide applicants through the loan application process, including prequalification.
  • Conduct credit analysis and collaborate with underwriters, processors and other internal staff to ensure timely and accurate loan processing.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state and local mortgage assistance programs and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Meet or exceed individual and team loan production goals, while adhering to quality and compliance standards.

Qualifications:

  • General understanding of the mortgage business, sales and office environment is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of financial statements and tax return forms.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor for interaction with the public.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with a passion for community development and homeownership advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a pipeline of loans effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • For bilingual roles, ability to speak and understand English and Spanish to communicate with customers and others.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Marketing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of mortgage lending or loan origination experience, preferably with a community focus.

Computer and Software Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Google Suite
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) proficiency; Salesforce experience a plus
  • Loan Origination software; Encompass LOS a plus

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) number required
