Position Summary: The Assistant Director is responsible for implementing the Fish Center Director's vision. They will play an integral role in the ongoing operations and planning of the Fish Center (both strategic and short-term) including working with students, publicizing the program, and building new events and activities.
Position Responsibilities:

Operational Management



  • Determine needs and priorities for room requests, space planning, IT services, University access accounts, and other shared operational resources
  • Act as the Fish Center's website Content Manager and Social Media Manager
  • Manage and coordinate program publicity, both online and in print, in conjunction with the Office of Communications, including annual brochures, program websites, email communications, and social media accounts. Manage email and other communications with internal and external parties
  • Assist with all other program activities, including internal and external meetings, and programs for adjunct professors, alumni, and/or international delegations
  • Review project proposals or plans to determine timeframe, funding limitations, procedures, staffing needs and allotment of available resources to various phases of a projec
  • Coordinate communications and publicity through the Office of Communications and Public Affairs
  • The position is responsible for managing annual program budgets and making decisions about expenditures within guidelines set by the Director
  • Manage and coordinate procurement
  • Assist with donor-related materials and development activities
  • Assist with special projects/programs and events as necessary



Student Engagement



  • Build and maintain an active alumni database
  • Create and manage extracurricular initiatives to engage the student body beyond virtual classrooms


HR Management



  • Hire and manage student employees
  • Internal and external expenses and reimbursements


Academic Management



  • Provide University offices and faculty with pertinent information through reports, written communications, and forms, and facilitate access to necessary documentation and University systems
  • Act as liaison for the Center to faculty, staff, University departments and vendors.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the Director


Experience & Education Background:

  • BA or higher required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, and employers
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Technological fluency, including Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • 2+ years of experience in a higher education setting preferred


Skills & Competencies:

  • Must demonstrate the ability to work as a team member, think creatively, and evaluate and improve existing processes and procedures
  • Must have strong and polished interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Must comprehend and follow a diverse set of verbally communicated operational procedures with little guidance or training and be self-manageable
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines
  • Able to use data analysis and create actionable insights from data
  • Able to set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of activities or job duties and effectively carry out the Center's goals


Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000
