About This Position

The Purchasing Specialist is critical in the Keefe Packaging organization and responsible for managing the purchasing process, ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement of inventory goods and supplies for packaging items and multiple products such as candy and powdered soft drinks. The position is an on-site role at the Keefe Packaging facility, working closely with Quality, the Purchasing and Planning Manager, Receiving, and Admin team. The Purchasing Specialist will ensure inventory levels of quality products are sufficient to meet production demand and provide procurement support to all departments by assisting in a variety of purchasing functions.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • End-to-end planning and purchasing responsibility for 50+ packaging and bulk ingredient SKUs - demand planning, supply planning, and materials planning.
  • Responsible for inventory availability, inventory turns, forecast accuracy, and other planning KPIs for assigned SKUs.
  • Maintain supplier relationships by monitoring supplier performance, communicating with suppliers, and resolving issues.
  • Negotiate supplier terms, delivery terms, pricing.
  • Own and maintain data integrity for given supplier base.
  • Utilize and leverage the demand planning system to drive optimal inventory levels.
  • Maintain Days Supply Remaining (DSR) Report.
  • Manage all MRO orders and office supply inventory levels and orders.
  • Work cross-functionally with accounts payable, operations, quality, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage priorities and tasks as delegated from the management team.
  • Supplier order placement.
  • Order confirmation for the greater team.
  • Arrange bulk and packaging material deliveries.
  • Create and maintain order templates.
  • Data maintenance for suppliers and items.
  • Assist with special projects and consolidate Excel spreadsheets.
  • Serve as backup for Purchasing and Planning Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

  • Four-year college degree (B.S., B.A.) in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or Business-focused concentrations, or comparable professional experience, required.
  • Previous supply chain planning experience of packaging items and long shelf life ingredients is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • Knowledge of Oracle, GAINS, and Microsoft PowerBI systems preferred.
  • Comfortable working with large data sets required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and evolving priorities.
  • Skilled communicator with ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and tact.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and trouble shoot problems.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to count products accurately and lift and carry weights of up to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Must have a personal vehicle (no motorcycles or mopeds) that is registered and insured.
  • Must be thorough and detail oriented and be able to work with minimal supervision.
