We are seeking aLabTestEngineerto join our team in Radford, Virginia. This role is ideal for someone interested in working in a hands-on electronics lab in a team-oriented environment. The candidate will work as part of the global engineering compliance team to verify, validate, and maintain, product safety in Motor/Drive systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform and document electronics and motor lab tests in line with industry standards and to Kollmorgen lab test procedures.

  • Help to certify motion-control motors, drives, and control technology as found on the Kollmorgen product webpage.

  • Collaborate with Development, Production, and Quality Management departments.

  • Work with third-party test labs, especially UL.This may include seeking technical expertise, solving compliance issues from production, or getting new products tested and certified.

  • Help create and manage documents for certifications. Use, update, and create lab test procedures.

  • Assist in checking development specifications with regard to applicable safety and EMC standards.

  • Support the certifications life cycle of new and existing products.

  • Provide support to Sales and Applications Engineering to solve compliance related customer problems.

Minimum Requirement:

  • Experience in a test or research lab environment.

  • Diligence to push to a final answer.

  • High level of integrity with lab data and report creation.

  • Experience with test setup and troubleshooting, data acquisition, and report writing. Ability to use, or learn to use, basic hand tools, electrical meters, scopes, and other test equipment.

  • Work well in a small cross functional engineering team within a larger organization. Ability to write and communicate clearly.

  • Ability to work steadily and safely without constant supervision, keeping an eye to meeting schedule commitments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with >120V electricity/electronics. Understand V=IR, V=Ldi/dt, and I=Cdv/dt.

  • Understanding of PCB layouts and defining creepage and clearance.

  • Basic knowledge of RF noise and EMC testing per CISPR, FCC, MIL or related standards.

  • Familiarity with Product Electrical Safety as found in the EU Low Voltage Directive and/or Machinery Directive, and with the US NEC or Canadian CEC per UL/CSA standards.

  • Experience with temperature, vibration, humidity testing, and other mechanical tests.

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering, Physics, or related Military education.

  • Interest in continual learning across different engineering disciplines.

  • Project management or Scrum/Agile experience.
