The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks a dedicated and professional Online Student Success and Engagement Coach. This role involves providing direct support to online master's students, helping them navigate their academic journey, and supporting their success and engagement. Key Responsibilities: Orientation & First Year Experience: * Assist in the orientation of new online MSDS students. * Support the development and implementation of orientation programming. * Track student completion of orientation requirements and address any issues. Student Success and Engagement Programming: * Support the management of the MSDS Virtual Community. * Assist in developing online resources and creating a communications plan. * Support in-person and online student engagement opportunities. * Assist with advising the Online Student Advisory Board. * Assist in the creation and distribution of the Online Student Welcome Guide. * Support the administration of surveys and analyze results. * Help maintain email listservs and Teams enrollment for online students. * Assist in organizing dedicated virtual student events and evaluating their success. * Support the management of the Student Affairs Community Portal and ensure it is updated regularly. * Help plan and execute events, and ensure events are communicated effectively. * Assist in developing and managing the Online MSDS Student Advisory Board. Direct Student Support: * Serve as a contact for a caseload of online MSDS students. * Assist in implementing an Early Alert Program and provide success coaching. * Maintain accurate records of student interactions and track progress. * Collaborate with faculty and staff to support online students. * Support the coordination of weekly study groups and ensure they are effectively facilitated. * Track student progress and provide early intervention for at-risk students. * Conduct well-being surveys and follow up with students needing support. * Address student course concerns and provide support for students with student success needs. * Connect students with relevant resources for financial, well-being, and other types of support. Evaluation and Data: * Assist in developing and evaluating plans for online MSDS student success and engagement. * Help track retention and graduation data and analyze trends. * Assist in preparing reports and making recommendations for program improvement. Communications: * Assist in developing event invites and surveys. * Help create a communications plan for Teams, Email, and Canvas. * Help maintain online MSDS email listservs and develop content. Other Duties: * Attend Student Affairs team meetings and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required: * Bachelor's degree. * At least three years of experience in student services in higher education. * Proficiency with learning management systems such as Sakai, Blackboard, or Canvas. * Excellent organizational and communication skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends. Preferred: * Experience with higher education student services in an online learning community. *Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or a related field. * Extensive knowledge of student services with the ability to provide advice and address needs independently. Reporting Structure: Assistant Director of Online Student Success and Engagement This position will remain open until filled. This is an exempt level, benefited position.
