Purpose of Position

The Principal Software Engineer in Test is Lead position as part of FlightSafety International's Software Quality Assurance Team and plays a key role in verifying the overall quality of mission critical applications and systems. As part of a highly collaborative team, this role will interact with many technical and business resources across the enterprise and will be responsible for building test automation for critical business systems.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Author automated tests (functional, non-functional) for custom applications in the manufacturing and training experience domains
  • Own requirements, design, development and maintenance of Test Automation Frameworks and standards and supporting test data management processes
  • Humbly mentor and coach QA engineers on scrum teams to adopt modern Test Automation techniques such as Behavior Driven Development, apply design patterns, etc.
  • Enable a value driven and risk-based approach to testing across the organization
  • As a Principal Engineer, develop and maintain strong team relationships across multiple teams.
  • Establish organization wide best practices and standards for Test Automation
  • Recommend appropriate tools and conceptual for organization's needs for Test Automation across all functional domains.
  • Act as overall delivery Test Automation lead of projects, collaborate with resource managers, and technical leads and dev-ops teams, and own your team's releases assist other teams with their Test Automation releases.
  • Prioritize and manage workload, issues, and risks.
  • Limited travel when required
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience.
Minimum Experience
  • 10+ years of experience leading Test Automation teams, more than one at a time for at least 2 years.
  • 10-15 years of hands-on experience working with object-oriented-languages (JavaScript strongly preferred).
  • 10-15 years of experience in a Scrum/XP software development role.
  • 5 + years of hands-on manual testing and validation of custom applications.
  • 5+ years in Mobile Application Automation testing (e.g. Appium).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Expert in functional and non-functional test automation
  • Expert in test data generation and management
  • Significant experience using and coaching Behavior Driven Development practices
  • Fluent in Scrum Practices, could easily act as a scrum master and author user stories with GHERKIN with acceptance criteria
  • Practitioner of Agile Methodologies, eXtreme Programming, Software Craftsmanship, DevOps, Continuous Delivery, Domain Driven Design
  • Experience in Tech Stacks under management: xUnit, advanced Test Automation frameworks, Nodejs, Selenium, Cucumber, Appium, .Net, etc.
  • Familiar with Test Driven Development and related practices, knows to "keep the campground clean,"
  • Ability to drive transformational change in an emergent agile culture
  • Secure coder familiar with common standards such as NIST SP 800-171
  • Understands how to leverage static and dynamic code scanning results
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

The employee may be required to stand, walk, and sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to view monitors, technical documents, and reference material. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
